Funny how places with strong public services and education - Ann Arbor, and strong middle (union) class economy - Sterling Heights are safer.

God dammit, St. Louis. It’s not that surprising though, I swear every morning I turn the news on there’s at least 1 murder the night before.

I think the issue is less with the allocation of funds to public services, but simply a lack of funds.... A strong middle class pays for a lot of public goods and services.. also please don’t equate middle class to union.

In Sterling Heights, middle class means union.

The top employers in the city are Ford, FCA, General Dynamics and Kuka (a defense and auto supplier) All of these shops are union.

sure, but you can’t equate unions to safe cities. There may be a correlation in this specific city, but you seemed to be implying that unions directly effect the safety of a city. Then turn around and mention a city that isn’t really mostly union as being safe. I’m just not a huge fan of giving credit to things that aren’t really related to the discussion. Just as an example, you could probably say that areas where people have nice lawns have lower crime rates. The two have nothing to do with each other.

Detroit, Flint and Saginaw are all very strong union cities. Just because a city has a strong union workforce doesn’t necessarily mean it has a strong economy. There are just too many factors that go into what determines whether a city has a strong economy to say that union = good economy or union = bad economy.
