My parents having a heated/insulated garage built in our back yard with a 2 post lift! We’re still talking with the builders about size, but it will probably end up at least 3-4 car width with a few feet between. Luckily, the place we live is zoned agricultural so the only limit is the max percent of your property that can be buildings.
It’ll probably look something like this gentlemans’, but with a 2 post lift. And no muscle cars.
Time to build a race car!

I would totally move into my mom’s basement if this was in the backyard.
Genuinely jelly.

Talk to the builder about slab thickness and bolting down a 2 post lift. He may want to pour things differently.

Awesome!
I plan on having something like this built within the next couple years at our house. We have a nice 3 bay garage now, but it is about 50 years old. It serves it purpose of housing our cars, but that’s about it. I need more room to work. And a lift. I need a lift.

Good point. IIRC a 4”-6” slab doesn’t cut it for a serious one. Best choice may be to run a deep section on one side and slack off on the rest.

Why the hell wouldn’t muscle cars be in it?!
also- very jealous

Yup, it’s going to have to be pretty thick. The lift we’re looking at is a 10k pound max (though nothing we own is over 3.5k). We’re also going to find out if it’s cheaper to pour a deeper slab just underneath the lift area, rather than the whole foundation being thicker.

German and Japanese 4 lyfe.
There will be a ‘64 Impala and a ‘72 Caddy in there though.

30A 220v lift, right? Don’t bother with a 110 in a shop.
We did it with the deeper slab just under the lift.

We got the fancy documents in the mail a few days ago. They supply you with scale cutouts to stick on a sheet of graph paper, so you can give them a general idea of what they’re dealing with. Probably a site survey within the next month. So hopefully we’ll have it in time for winter.

Oh, I see. You’re waiting until the *other* garage is put up to get some SMOKIN’TIRES MACHINES

The only reason we’re getting one is for the lift. Our garage isn’t tall enough, plus we have so many cars in the driveway and other places.

We don’t own any or plan to own any, though we do have a ‘64 Impala (with the 283 V8) and a ‘72 Caddy. But those are boats, not muscle cars.

We’re looking at one of these. They actually have a showroom about 30 minutes away from where we live, since they make them in Indianapolis.

watch the temp when you pour the concrete. if it gets too cold out it will affect its strength.

Oh, we’re not going to be doing the concrete or anything. That’s for the professionals to handle. If they can’t do it, then we’ll have to wait till next year.

Are you set on the overhead shut-off style? Just asking because you can give up space up top if the ceiling is higher than the top of the lift.
I like Greg Smith stuff FWIW. Get a pair of high lift jack stands and a trans jack too! :)

But, why not more?!
That garage needs some Mercury Muscle if you ask me.

Damn I wish I had room for one, not as expensive as I would have thought.
Though it’s almost one Montego (that’s how I judge prices these days)

I love agricultural zones. I can build a missile silo if I wanted to...
