I don’t know about you guys, but for me, the first modification I look for in a car is a new shifter. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a car where I didn’t upgrade the shifter when one was available. Now in my case with this Mustang, the expensive but was already done and the car has a Pro 5.0 shifter. I hated the tiny little lever though:
What is this, a shift lever for ants?! I installed a set of seat rail extenders to move the seat back, and I have to lean forward to get at this one, so it needs to go.
Enter: a big god damn chrome Hurst handle!
Now THAT is a shift lever! Yes, it lengthens the throw a bit, but it’s a lot more controllable to me and I’ve got a lot more leverage. It puts the knob right by my hip when I’m in second, but still with plenty of room to get under it for the 2-3 shift. It’s basically perfect.
Now I just need a white knob on there and I'm golden.

FUCK YEAH PRO 5.0
Great shifter. MGW is good too.

I’ve heard good things about the MGW, but Pro 5.0 seems to be the one to have. If it didn’t have anything I’d have bought a Hurst, because I’m nostalgic like that.

Having had both billet-plus and pro 5.0 shifters I think you made the better choice. I like the nostalgia of Hurst too, but I miss less shifts with the 5.0

When I bought my ‘95, I was thinking about putting a shifter in it, having heard that they were the cat’s pajamas. I didn’t dislike the one I had; I just wanted to know what I was missing out on. But when I went to change the clutch, I found that a previous owner had already put one there!
Later, I saw a similar Mustang in a junkyard, so I sat down in it to see what the stock shifter actually feels like. It was like rowing a boat!
Short-throw shifters are worth every penny, even the more expensive ones.

I think I’ve had most of the major players now in Fox-body shifters. I had a Billet/Plus in my ‘88, a Steeda in my ‘92, and a B&M Ripper in my ‘85 Capri...I liked the Ripper a lot, actually. Paid like $50 for it used. But the Pro 5.0 seems really good, I love how thick the base of it is. Seems like a really high quality part.

I had the B&M Ripper in both of my 5.0s - much better than stock for sure.

I like the Ripper a lot, I had one in an ‘85 Capri. It was probably my favorite shifter I've had in a Fox body until this one.

i have a pro 5.0 in my 2000 trans am and it made a world of difference in throw and feel, definantly shifts different depending on the stick
