Should Tractor-like engine sound stop you from a bargain?

I found a bargain 328d M-Sport factory demo on one of the dealers I work closely with. I had already locked in the Happier Holiday event BMW ran during Nov-Dec, so I knew my residual and money factor. In short, I can have this car for less than 11% of depreciation over 36 months of leases.

Now, if you buy new, feel free to match that with 18 years+ ownership and maintenance.

I don't hate diesel, but not lust over that mpg either. I like the 280 torque and this car actually have most options I want (save from heated steering wheel, rear sunshade and lane changing warning, all would be great for my wife.)

The only problem I can think of stop me from getting this, is the engine sound.

(Almost the end of video, 6'17"~6'23")

I drove the barebone 328 before, and the only complaint we had was the engine hum, which was noticeable in the cabin and obvious from the outside. (In comparison, 535d I test drove, you can't hardly tell from the cabin.)

I am waiting for my CA return the email with selling price and remaining warranty/service term.

What say you, oppo?

its a friggen diesel, no duh it going to sound like a traktor.

as for the MPG...you should expecty to get higher then what it says. IDK what EPA does when they test their diesel, but they under rated my dads A3 tdi by like 10 MPG.

I would do it. with a tune, these diesels can friggen HAUL.

How long did you drive it for? My Alfa sounds rubbish at start-up, but soon quietens it's diesel rattle after about 10 minutes. I agree with Peter Black; ECU reflash may drop your MPG a bit, but the payoff will be worth it.

So an 89% residual in the lease? That sounds like a crazy good deal.

All diesels are like that, there's no getting around it. Even the gas 328 has some chirping you can hear from the cabin thanks to the DI.

They discount the car off MSRP over 25% due to it's factory demo. That with 63% residual for 36 months lease on 10k miles per year.

Rock the oil hammer if you can live with 10K/year miles. Your fuel costs should come up about even with the lower mileage gasser due to the higher price of #2.

And you will dig the torque...you will. It's what I miss most from driving the Jetta TDI wagon I had for three years...the power just rolls on.

i bought a used Mazda 3 in June for 35k miles. It hasn't top 39k yet, despite I drove all the way from California back to Washington. I might not able to use all 10k a year.

After living with a 328d wagon for almost six months, you don't even notice it.
