Built by Cosworth and Yamaha, boasting full alloy construction and a respectable 235hp with 230lb/ft. Unfortunately, its high-revving powerband was poorly translated through a 4 speed slushbox that sent it to the front wheels. I can't think of any good Ford products to easily swap it into, the V8 being transverse and all...

The Shogun...absolute best use of the SHO motor ever...

I completely forgot that this used it! It would be awesome to see a roadkill where they made a junkyard Shogun.

I've always wanted to own or just drive a manual 1st or 2nd Gen SHO. A buddy of mine used to had one and I was hooked from the first time I rode in it.

Yeah, they seem like fun practical cars. It would be nice to swap the V8 into a first gen 5spd.

There's a clapped out Festiva that I drive by every day...I want to do this to it..or swap in a turbo'd 1.8 from a Miata...the 1.3l the Festiva came with is actually a Mazda BP motor...same as the NA and NB Miatas.

You're right it was...I had my SHO's all mixed up.
Still the coolest SHO swap though...

If this has the same bolt pattern and bell housing as the v6 3 liter SHO, then look at Quads 4 Rods. they make a housing that will mate to a T5 transmission. Put it in a fox mustang or a Ranger truck....or anything with a T5 transmission.

Weak link is the trans. I doubt the 5spd from the first 2 Gens could hold up to the V8.

Actually, the v8 SHO engine was entirely built by Ford. Cosworth and Yamaha never had any documented involvement with the engine's development or manufacture.
It's sort of a proto-Duratec engine as it incorporates many of the features used on the Duratec 2.5L v6, and also adds the intake butterflies used on some of the Modular v8s. In fact, the highly problematic swaged-on cam sprockets were "borrowed" from the Duratec, where they worked much better running fewer valves.
The 4-speed AX4N wasn't all that bad stock, and with a tune it could chirp 2-3 shifts. The v8 SHOs are great cars once you get the cams welded, and even better once you get Paul Nimz to do a custom tune :).

True, it's only 10 lb/ft extra and 15hp. Those are less the kinds of increases to expect from headers on the V6 most likely.

Wow, thanks for the info! I wouldn't be too opposed to having a V8 SHO with welded cams, a tuned transmission, and a Paul Nimz tune!

I looked into buying one instead of my NA, but the reliability on them is so hit or miss I didn't want to deal with it. That engine deserved a better chassis and a better transmission.

Yeah, I'd love one of these in a Focus like this especially.
Also, I just got the Save The Manuals stickers yesterday. I was looking for the last notification from you. C&D couldn't send them, they got shipped back, and then I had problems re-ordering. But I do have one for you if you're still interested! I have to set up a new PayPal but I'm going to do that now. I'll keep you updated.

Yeah, he seems pretty Jalop to me! Maybe not quite as much as Jay Leno, but still pretty cool of him to keep his old SHO going.

After getting rid of a 1990 Taurus, I was able to move on up to a black 1999 SHO. As a youngin', it was a nice car and definitely got me to the brink of getting into trouble a number of times.
Fuel economy wasn't so hot and eventually had a number of electrical gremlins started rearing their ugly heads (sensors, mystery power drains). Reports of the cam failures were popping up and decided to let it go. Traded it in for an A4.

I was pitted next to a team at LeMons running one of these with a manual swap. Should have asked from what they got the 5-speed from. Car seemed to go okay until they started running into cooling problems (95 degrees at Thunderhill).
Saw them again at Sonoma, which ended with them on fire. I'm sure they'll be back.
