The stupid Anaheim Ducks (this is because they didn't care about Syracuse) decided to buy the Norfolk Admirals and move them to San Diego...
Stupid, stupid move. At least this organization doesn't control the Syracuse Crunch anymore and Tampa Bay does.

Edit: it appears there's a whole new division. AND THEY'RE TAKING ADIRONDACKS TEAM...

I used to live in Norfolk, but haven't for more than 20 years. How successful was the team in Norfolk? Will they do any better in San Diego?

They were alright the last few years. They won the Calder Cup in 2011-2012.

By successful, I meant how was the support? Was Norfolk much of a hockey town?

Ah that stinks. I'm not the biggest hockey fan, but it was a bummer when my local minor team disbanded simply for the loss of something else entertaining to do.

I think they were pretty good support wise. Not sure how much of a hockey town they were. I'm in Syracuse which is pretty big area for hockey so the Crunch have down well up here.

I moved from San Diego in 1998, what happened to the San Diego Gulls?

Folded in '06

Sucks when you loose a local team but I'm all for the overall plan to get the NHL farm teams into their parent market. Makes a whole lotta sense from a logistic as well as a fan base standpoint.

So what does this mean for the ECHL clubs in those cities, out the door?
![]() 01/29/2015 at 17:16 |

One of them is actually becoming an AHL team. Most might become AHL teams not exactly sure though.

Most of these were relative rivals to my local team. Now I'm not sure how it's gonna be here in the east.

:/ The Ducks are my team. Huge hockey fan, here. Sorry tho. Are you in/around Norfolk?

Interesting, really kinda destroys the ECHL Western Conf (especially w/ Alaska)

No, I'm in Syracuse. They didn't care about our AHL team very much. I've always enjoyed watching Norfolk play Syracuse though.

Yeah, might just rename the current AHL teams to the new cities names. Although San Jose will now have two pro teams so they'd need to change the AHL team name.

No idea what they could call themselves that would work. Also, where will they play? Same barn? Besides the practice facility that is really the only option no?
![]() 01/29/2015 at 19:17 |

Yeah probably in the Shark Tank, and you can't have two San Jose Sharks unless one is called the California Sharks.
![]() 01/29/2015 at 19:18 |

Agreed, and baby sharks wont really cut it either. Sea Lions?
![]() 01/29/2015 at 19:22 |

It's gonna be neat to see what all these teams look like soon.
And the article on NHL.com said both San Jose teams will play at the Shark Tank (HP Pavilion)
![]() 01/29/2015 at 19:23 |

that makes the most sense (HP) and it will be nice to see new identities, however I really hope Stockton and Bakersfield stick with what they have, Ontario too, they are solid looks and fit locally

Ahhhhh. Makes sense now. Do you play (ice or roller)?
![]() 01/29/2015 at 19:33 |

Never got the chance to play. I've watch hockey my entire life and grown up around the game in a way. Went to AHL games all the time, still go quite a bit.

Bakersfield team is moving from the ECHL to the AHL. Not sure what's to come of the other clubs though.

That's cool that you go to AHL games. I mostly follow NHL and go to Ducks games. Also, I don't think SJ will end up with 2 teams.
![]() 01/29/2015 at 19:59 |

Buffalo is kinda far for an NHL game so AHL is my main choice for pro hockey.
It was confirmed that SJ was moving the Worcester Sharks to San Jose, every official article from NHL.com and theahl.com say that.
![]() 01/29/2015 at 20:11 |

Yeah... Buffalo is far from you. Yes, one NHL and one AHL team. I think I misunderstood your other thread. Haha. I thought you were saying that two of the five new CA AHL teams were going to SJ. That's why I was like, what am I missing here? Lol

I loved going to watch them. That makes me unbelievably sad as that was some of the most entertaining hockey I've ever seen.
