and holy shit that thing is bonkers. I mean, I've never had the opportunity to drive one before, but.. Were they always this nuts? Spinning wheels in first and second, insane launch around 3k rpm. Just... Wow.

2000 GTI VR6 owner here, they've always been nuts. Spinning tires is easy, even in my MkIV, which is kinda considered the "pig" of the GTI line.

Its not even the tires spinning that gets me— just the sheer launch once the revs climb up.

Only GTI I've driven is 1st gen ... not as pure a driving experience as a 2002, but close.

Alamo/National @O'hare. It was a fluke in the system... it must be. Had to have been one-wayed from somewhere else.

drove my stepdad's GTI last night, and that one has a tune on it. This is the first time I drove it alone, and it was after a rainstorm, with the car nicely warmed up. Wheelspin in 1st, 2nd and 3rd with the ASR off.
They're savage!

I have a 2003 GLI with the 24v VR6. The sound of the engine when the tuned intake runners switch over...BRUTAL little car.
I know people hate them for their lack of reliability and all. But for the people who have actually driven a well running one...there is not a lot to NOT like about them.
I am especially fond of their interiors. I don't think their is a car in its price range with an interior that looks and feels so expensive.
