Clarkson is great! He's incredibly complicated. I bet few people actually "know" him. He has a persona, a reputation, and he's a character unto himself. I'd both treasure and fear an encounter with the man. He'd probably mock and utterly berate me...and I'd grin and thank him for it. I enjoy watching TOP GEAR because he lets gems like this slip out. He knows the relationship between car and man.

By rights, I should hate the 928. It was the first press test car I ever crashed. And I used one to go and see my dad the day before he died. I also disliked the dreadful ride quality in later models. And yet, even today, when one grumbles by, my head does the full Linda Blair. It is, I think, one of the best-looking cars ever made.

I wish we would see this side of him more though. I love how funny and all the crazy stuff he says though.

He's probably overflowing with stuff like this. There are undoubtably few moments in his long life that aren't "directly car related". Hell, my life is vastly car related and I'm not an automotive professional in the same sense as he. It'd be truly wonderful for him to create something completely candid involving his life and autos. Few men in this world or in all of automotive/mankind history have his perspective.

He needs to move to the States once he buttons up his TopGear contract - he'd love it here.

I think also what he would say when he got serious or showed emotion would be that more impactful because he is so crazy on tv. he is one of those personalities that I just can't get enough of so funny and passionate despite his opionions or abrasiveness.

It's crazy but I think none of the season can live up to that special.

he mentioned this story one other time, and I had a similar thought. it is always nice to see the humans behind the tv character facades that happen to share their names

this is pretty valid, the 928 he mentioned was a loaner for him to test drive and write about, so he was clearly into cars long before this tale.
