Ten years from now, I'll have graduated college and hopefully have some extra money saved up for a new car. (I plan on keeping the Sentra for quite a while...) Also in ten years, there will probably be a flood of R34s, S15s, and the like coming into the country, which will serve to distract people from the real gem of the era, the Autech Stagea. So I'll sneakily pick up a cheaper used one, before people realize that it's literally just a wagon GT-R, and prices shoot up.
This is the best idea I've had in a long time. Anyone else in?

Don't know about Stageas, but I'll be out of college and making Money in three years time, and then I'm buying my Nova. And any other old cars that catch my fancy, just because.

Aren't those already expensive?

I'm all for that, Novas are badass. Don't tempt me away from my original idea...

Nicer ones are, but there are quite a few bargains

I've been wanting one for so long now, but they were never sold in Brazil, and importing a car over here is a veritable red tape nightmare, specially if it's an american car.
They were built and sold in Argentoina though, and with the Argentinian economy going down the drain, I figure I'll just book a flight to Buenos Aires, buy the car, drive back, and work a plan to get into the county on the way. Should be fun!

You don't have to do that to distract americans from the stagea. It's a wagon, and unfortunately, we hate those. If it had been a big-box SUV or crossover though, you'd be hard pressed to get one, but it's not. So it will be easy.

After that you'll use it to escape to florida so you and I can share pina coladas while driving classic muscle and supercars I'll buy with my drug and bank robbery cashed out Tesla stock money, right?!

I'm not sure they're bargains at all. I'd be very wary of buying a relatively poor condition hoonmobile unseen. God knows what kind of condition it's in.

True, I'd probably pass on the really cheap ones. Compared to what R34s will probably be going for when they're legal to import here though, I don't thing they'll be completely out of my price range.

Well, I wouldn't try to predict car prices in ten years. Who knows what'll be fashionable or what the market will do. But I guarantee you there'll be something that's a bargain out there when you're ready :)

I know, I need to keep my head out of the clouds! I can dream, though;)

Nothing wrong with dreaming, but there's no need to be too specific :)
Just think about all the cars that'll be available by then - everything built before 2000.
Like this, for example:

Stick a GT-R front clip on it and nobody will be any the wiser...

I don't know, I actually like the Autech body kit in the front in an "it's so ugly it's cool" kind of way

Don't forget about the CT9A Evo wagon. I'll take an Autech Stagea and a CT9A Evo wagon at the same time.

I tried to gather informations if there was some kind of Mercosur law to import a used car with less than 30 years from Argentina or Chile to Brazil, but apparently the same 30 year law applies.
There are some wankel Mazdas on argentinian MercadoLibre and a sweet Volvo 480 to sell

Yup, same laws... the obvious advantage is that you can drive it home and not get stuck at customs and all the fees they charge. I've crossed Argentina back to back three times recently, both for vacations and in preparation for the day I have the cash to do this, so I'm confident I could actually carry it out in relative ease. If I had the money...

Haha, so you must be from the south like me. There are still loads of argentinians in Florianópolis, and it's almost march!
The main problem I see is the engine regulation... Argentinian cars are regulated to run with pure gasoline, thing we don't have here. Every brazilian engine parts receive special treatment agains the corrosion promoted by ethanol, and I don't believe the argentinian cars have this kind of special anti-corrosion coating on the engine parts.
That's too bad, because with the ARS plumelling down, I could get a Volvo 850 wagon with manuél transmission.

Yup, I'm from even farther south, Carazinho, RS, though I currently live in Porto Alegre due to college. That alone would make it so easy for me to simply import a car, sight seen, without middleman, but then there's the fact that this is Brazil and nothing is ever easy or without hurdles in Brazil... there's the legal side, and then there's the ethanol, which will indeed eat parts from the inside out. My main concern would be the Nova's carburetors, as those keep in contact with the fuel all the time, and wouldn't be treated against it, as you said.
