Nissan is basically like 90s GM.
They only build two performance cars.
Pretty much all of their cars are also-rans.
All their cars are pretty boring to look at.
Luxury brand with an identity crisis building meh cars.
Good V6 engine, not much else. (GM at least had a good V8 too)
Crappy transmissions.
Some cars in their portfolio are going on 8 years old.
Reliability isn't that great.
Cost cutting in stupid places.
Releasing concepts that wowed, then killing them.
Releasing models that make absolutely zero sense.
This list could easily describe GM in the 90s and Nissan now. I don't get it, Nissan used to always be the "fun" Japanese car company in my mind, like Mazda. Shit's changed though.

I secretly want one of those Versa Sedans so badly. They're so appealing for some strange, unknown reason.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:25 |

THIS IS ALL I CAN THINK OF.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:26 |
|
So, does that make the Versa a Cavalier, or a Metro?
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:27 |
|
But wouldn't you rather have a Nissan over a 90s Chevy?
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:28 |
|
Not really, no.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:29 |
|
I think the Sentra would be the Cavalier. So Metro.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:29 |
|
SEE. I'M NOT WRONG.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:29 |
|
Versa the Metro and the Sentra the Crapalier.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:30 |
|
But there's so many better cars in the category!
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:31 |
|
If I didn't know anything about cars, I'd think they were the same car.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:31 |
|
So, don't hate me on this, but I really don't mind the Facelifted Versa in this color. I'm not saying I'd own one, but if I needed to drive it, I'd have no problem being seen in it.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:32 |

"Wow, I thought the Metro was discontinued years ago!"
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:32 |

LIKE THE MAZDA 2, RIGHT?
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:33 |
|
Yes.
Or the Sonic
Or the Fiesta
Or the Fit
Or LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT MAYBE THE YARIS.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:35 |
|
Haha, "The new 2015 Geo Metro Sedan." This could be a rebadge. This could be a rebadge.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:36 |
|
Wait. Where would the Spark go? Would that be in the same category as the Mirage or the iQ?
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:37 |
|
The Spark is Mirage sized I think. It's bigger than the iQ though.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:38 |
|
The Micra would be the Metro.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:45 |

Nissan should just rebadge Renaults.
Renault Clio —> Nissan Clio
Renault Megane —> Nissan Tiida (get rid of the boring-ass Versa name)
They need to bring back SE-R models, too. They'd be rebadged Renaultsports.
Also, Infiniti needs to use the JDM names.
Infiniti Primera (yes, I love small FWD 4-cylinder luxury cars, and the P11 G20 is fucking awesome)
Infiniti Skyline (one of THE most iconic names from the past 20 years)
Infiniti Cedric/Gloria
Infiniti President
Infiniti Patrol

So what's the Cube? If we're talking 90's all the way to bailout, it's definitely the Aztek. Just 90's, I'm really not sure.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:48 |
|
GM's always had a bit of a reputation of having great engines wrapped up inside of horrible cars.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:50 |
|
This. I have thought for years now that Nissan should just be considered an American car company thats not even trying hard.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:51 |
|
Yes.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:51 |
|
The Cube is the Aztek and the Murano CrossCab is the SSR.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:51 |
|
American car companies are doing infinitely better than Nissan right now.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 20:53 |
|
The only "good" Nissan engine right now is the VQ (IMO)
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:00 |
|
But the VQ is older than those nude pictures of Betty White at this point. Even broke-as-fuck GM managed to transition from LT1-LS1 during that time.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:00 |
|
The LEAF isn't bad, I'll say, the Juke and Cube are decent (if you don't mind the funky design), the GTR is awesome. Everything else, meh. I've sat in a Micra last year, cheapest car on sale in Canada. Makes you wonder why the Versa Note exists.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:02 |
|
Wait...is the spark better than the iQ and the Mirage? If it is...Did...did GM outdo two Japanese manufacturers at the micro car game? Land of the Kei cars and all that?
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:05 |
|
The VK45 is an awesome V8 as well, but they don't put it in anything worthwhile and that's a fuckin' shame.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:29 |
|
Every time. 90s Chevys are nasty, and I've never even been in one!
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:31 |
|
You know I never did think of that, but even with all the crap 90s GM had, they still made some pretty interesting cars that still hold up. Nissan though? Nothing, nothing in their lineup I could ever see gaining a following besides maybe (and that's a big maybe) the GT-R. Besides, I'd much rather have the blown headgasket and elk's lodge Cadillacs of the 90s then the "I'm trying way to hard to look like a Mercedes Benz" Infiniti's of now.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:31 |
|
I can see this. There's less parts-bin shuffling though and a lot less reckless endangerment.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:33 |
|
Having driven a 90s Chevy Cavalier (Don't ask), I would much rather have a cheap Nissan over that.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:37 |
|
Oooh, there might be a chance we'd get another Clio V6 24V...
I'm OK with this...
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:41 |
|
90s Chevy/GM (cool albeit mostly dislikeable owner groups)
(Not pretty but a good car for the money)
Present-day Nissan
90s Nissan is another story, though.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:50 |
|
I specifically said 90s Chevys versus modern Nissans. So you can toss the Camaros and the Impala. (EDIT: And the C4 Vette)
The other ones aren't the most awful things to come out of GM in the 90s...
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:57 |
|
I can assure you, there is no Nissan car today i'd buy over the GM.
Not even the Altima over the Malibu.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 21:58 |
|
There were lots of horrendous cars coming from GM at the time (in fact, at all times) and I'd rather have a 370Z than a roadmaster obviously. But I'd still take a nice Impala SS with money left over for gas and old GM problems over a CVT Sentra as a daily driver. The ZR1 came out in '90, the fourth gen camaro came out in '93, and the Impala SS came out in 1994. All cars were available at least as late as '92.

I sat in a Malibu LTZ Turbo at the STL auto show and actually liked it a lot. If I was buying a midsizer, the 'Bu would be in the top 3. The Fusion and 200 being the other two.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 22:02 |

The Malibu is scaring me. The other day that I saw a Turbo I thought it was *Looks around so no one hears me* *whispers* "...sexy".
![]() 01/26/2015 at 22:04 |
|
The one at the show was Black with the big, chunky 19 inch 5 spokes over black leather. I'm not afraid to admit it was sexy.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 22:06 |

Yes, see 3800 V6
![]() 01/26/2015 at 22:07 |

That never occured to me, but you are 100% on the money.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 22:17 |
|
Nope.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 22:19 |
|
It's doing something to me!
And I love that combo.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 23:34 |
|
I disagree. Comparing the Skyline to a Cadillac Catera? Or the 370Z to an F-body? Argument invalid. Even the Juke, as ugly as it is, is turbocharged with all-wheel drive...
Now, if you mean the lower tier crap that Nissan is currently selling, then yeah. I've got nothing. Other than maybe the Sentra SE-R might be good... not that I'd drive one to find out.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 23:59 |

The Spark is actually a pretty cool and nippy car. Don't get me wrong, the Mirage is cool too, but the Spark is surprisingly good.
Yes, it may only have 84 hp, but remember that Kei cars have around 63 hp. That's an improvement. The iQ is a great car, but it's just not as practical as the Spark or the Mirage.
![]() 01/27/2015 at 00:22 |

I actually kind of like the second-gen Versa sedan, too, at least before the 2015 facelift. It has a certain dorky, ill-proportioned, developing-country vibe that I find oddly charming.
![]() 01/27/2015 at 13:07 |
|
Don't you think this would be a good alternative to the Versa?
![]() 01/27/2015 at 15:57 |
|
Nope, not the only one. Nissan used to make awesome products. My friends had a 300, 2000 altima and a 93 Infiniti g50. All super durable. Having rented a number there is something that just doesn't appeal to me. I found the Altimas steering bizarre.
I would throw VW in that lot too. Thats another story for another day. Although maybe today since its snowing.
![]() 01/27/2015 at 23:58 |

So GM had Geo which mean, now Nissan needs to make a pointless cheaper sub brand that only makes re-badged stripped down Nissans. They could call it idk.... Datsun. The new Datsun Versa with a heater, and am/fm radio.
![]() 01/28/2015 at 00:04 |

Boring to look at?
![]() 01/28/2015 at 00:09 |
|
that is all
![]() 01/28/2015 at 00:20 |

Datsun is actually a thing in some countries, such as India.
![]() 01/28/2015 at 00:21 |

Not boring, but ugly.
