Kinja'd!!!

So I took my girlfriend to the Detroit Auto Show and we went around together and enjoy the day. At the auto show I got her excited about some of the cars there. Specifically the S3, S4, S5, TT, and R8. She has also always loved the Wranglers. Tonight she will be watching the new Top Gear with me. Hopefully she will learn something. I am excited maybe one day I can get married to a gear head!!!!

Have you had any success turning your significant other into a car geek? If so do explain how.

Mine got mad when I called her Acura ILX a "flashier Civic." I'll let you know when I make some progress.

Maybe if we all pull our resources we can successfully come up with an action plan to turn anyone into a car nut.

I have had mixed success. She loves UK TG now and happily watches it but now thinks my Cobra is "uncomfortable" and she still thinks Foxbodies are ugly. But my daughter has been a huge success she loves '60s pontiacs now and thinks Grand Nationals are "rock star cars"

Surprisingly, yes! Although, it's been an easy transition, since she already loved motorcycles.

You have your DD for comfort the Cobra is for raw excitement and joy. THAT is what you have to explain to her. Maybe if she drives it then she will understand. As for your daughter maybe it is time to sell the Cobra and to buy a Pontiac to fuel the flame.

yep. When we met my wife wasn't much into cars. Now she wants a Zonda if she wins the lottery, knows what an Atom is, drives our kids around in our Evo, spec'd out her own Cooper S with sport suspension and will watch Top Gear with me. Her and I have driven the Nurburgring and she drove a lap. We went to Le Mans in 2013 and slept in the stands. We went to Vegas for her X0th birthday and one of the things she wanted to do was take the family race go karts. She is also one of our Lemons team drivers and she is good. She is also a great cook and an amazing mom. So, yeah. I'm a very lucky guy. I did all this by simply including her.

That would be an easy transition. Lucky guy. I bet you get any car/bike your heart desires.

I noticed success when I included my girlfriend in the few auto shows I have taken her too. That is great your wife is so into the passion with you it makes it more fun for everyone.

My wife pretended to start liking cars when we first met too. She would go to EVERY car show I attended and hangout all DAY with my friends and I. Now I can't get her to go to Cars and Coffee for 30 mins one sunday a month.

yeah, it is good for both of us. We have a lot of fun together. Right now we are figuring Out a trip to either Monza or Spa this summer.

Keep in mind it isn't all about cars. We do other stuff too. We like similar music and movies. We both enjoy adventures, so travel is fun. Most of all we talk. About everything. Makes for a happy life.

I don't often actually lol when I read something but this was one of the exceptions. That is an interesting mistake to make.

Of course cars are only a small part of the recipe but still it is fun to work that into a relationship. I hope for you and your wife only the best on your vacation be it to either Monza or Spa.

PS is should be Spa here is why:

Best track on the F1 calendar

Working on it, shouldn't be hard though. She's a mechanical engineering student and drives stick.

She likes to rev it out, and will happily join me in extolling the virtues of row-your-own to the uninitiated.

Also, for Christmas she gave me a bunch of hot wheels she picked out herself. All good choices too, just by instinct.

/end shameless bragging

No worries the bragging was entertaining to read. Sounds like you have her hooked, lined, and sinkered into the car hobby if she is a mechanical engineering student.

Lol it happened when I was picking her up one day, I called her and she was like "Yeah I see you you're right here in front" and I was like "No...that's a grey BMW I'm across the street", "But don't you have a grey BMW?" "No I have a Mercedes Benz _" , "Oh I get confused with the MB!"

She hasn't made the mistake since though!

I assume you sat in the Audis. I've never been in a car that smelled as good as the S7 that I sat in at our local show... I can still smell it.

Yay for shared interests!

I've dated guys who knew nothing about cars and/or motorcycles, and one woman who knew nothing about football, but we had enough other stuff in common that I didn't feel the need to "convert" anyone. One of the latter was really proud of himself when he found the "sport mode" on his 2011 3series though.

Not at all. I think the very best I got was teaching her how to drive with a G27 in a PC game.

Funny enough, my wife originally got me going to the car show every year. She grew up working on cars with her dad and got me into cars in the first place. I've since eclipsed her interest and knowledge with my own obsession, but it's nice being able to talk cars with someone of the opposite sex. Both our heads turn when a car that sounds like sex drives by.

I mean there isn't a need but it is fun for our partners to at least kinda know what we ramble about sometimes.

For sure. I'm totally content to let my current bf ramble about videogames though, I generally have zero interest in them and I'm glad he's not trying to get me into it because it'd just be annoying. Vice versa with my gym stuff.
