So, I took this pic a few months ago and just found it again. Decided to post it here. Spotted this baby outside a bar in Manayunk, Philadelphia. A convertible 7-series. Yes.

I, personally, would NEVER modify Bimmer's flagship like this - but it's awesome in its own way! Thoughts?

I'd be interested in how it looks once the roof is up also how the roof actually goes up

also how badly has the structural rigidity been affected by this, other than that looks pretty cool

I tried to hang around long enough to catch the driver, but patience isn't my biggest virtue. Fingers crossed he (it's definitely a "he") drives by again.

I'm a big fan of these kinds of conversions, as long as they're done reasonably well. There aren't enough big convertibles around for me to roll with my hos on a sunny day.

Yea, this car just begs for blunts to be smoked within.

I was thinking more along the lines of a diamond-encrusted gold chillum packed with the very finest highgrade.

I'm assuming the top (if there is one) is always down, so anyone getting in or out can just Dukes of Hazzard over the sill.

You can see the top, actually - right behind backseat (ha...obviously). It appears to be a soft top. Would be interesting to see how clean of a job was done when the top is actually up.

Exactly!

It looks tasteful with the top down. Hope its not an awkward-scrotum-top when its up.

Oh, I'm sure it's a soft top. I was thinking that if the owners were smart, they'd have run bracing through the doors, front to back, and welded them shut. I can't imagine those doors ever closing straight once they've been opened.

I look at this like I look at my pet cat. I would never have a kitten declawed, I just couldn't do it, but I'm extraordinarily happy to have rescued one that was at some point declawed.

The body flex on that thing must be terrible. They didn't even put in a roll bar.

Not a huge fan, I'd like it a little bit more if it was a 2 door. But cool anyways.

I really want to like this, but don't think I can. It's just not right to me. If I was going to do it, I'd want to somehow make this into a coupe. But two doors would be way too long.

So while it's an interesting idea, I just can't get behind it.

I seem to recall a Car & Driver "Short Take" of a 7-Series convertible (of this generation) that an aftermarket company had produced, though I want to say it had a Volkswagen Cabrio-esque "basket handle" at the B-pillar. It's not something I'd do to a perfectly solid 7-Series, but it's an interesting idea nonetheless.

Committed to what he wanted. Good for him. Looks nice, but I could do it to an e38.

I feel like a terrible person but I absolutely love this! I would so totally daily this thing!

I'm just a sucker for luxury cars and convertibles so when they are combined...
