Draining your fuel tank sucks

I removed the gas cap, kinked the hose to the pump, pulled it, dropped it into a 2-gallon can, and waited. After a couple of minutes the flow stopped to a dribble, so I blew some compressed air into the return breather hose to push out the remainder (maybe a quart) and figured it was safe to pull the 27mm banjo bolt at the tank outlet, which has to come out to completely drain the tank and to visually inspect the outlet screening "sock".

At this point a rapid flow of gasoline ran down the outlet, down the socket, the breaker bar, my chemical-safe shoulder length glove and right into my shirt.

I've washed it four times with plain detergent, Borax, lye and Dawn. Still stinks.

I did finally get all of the gas out, and was surprised by the relatively tiny amount of sediment that I flushed. The screen was also clean, aside from some sandy grit. No sludge, slime, or rust. Not to install my new gas hoses (ethanol safe), and maybe run some Seafoam through to clean the hard lines. All of the under-hood hoses are new, thankfully. I replaced those, as well as the fuel pressure regulator, when I had the injectors cleaned.

With any luck she'll be ready for spring drives by next weekend!

I'm sort of in the same boat at the moment.

http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/project-cruise…

I drained everything out of it with the pump and ran the car until it stalled yet there is still some gas left in the car and it is still leaking. My fear is that the second I remove the strap that it will start pissing everywhere. The last think I need is a gallon of gas all over my garage floor.

I've been involved in two house fires in my 30 years of age so the fear is real. I don't fuck around with gas.

Oddly enough, what I've found best in dealing with smells is to just leave the offending piece of laundry hanging outside for a day or so. Even though you haven't cleaned it, it seems to work for me on cigar smoke.

As for the vehicle, I can only imagine how hot it gets in there with that back glass. You need some tint!

And the AC doesn't work...

Good idea on the laundry! My wife will thank you.
