Whorehouse red dashboard, center gauges, dash-mounted shifter, and they go with a Sentra steering wheel.
nailed it!

To be even more driver-oriented, these need to be one giant touch-screen.

Nissan Quest dude. Every Quest I have ever seen was driven by someone that was barely qualified to run a Wal-Mart mobility scooter, let alone a car.

My cousin had one of those in beige.
I had no idea of the crazy red interior, also they came with like 3 TV screens and a moonroof for each passenger. Quite cool.

what? The big flat panel of NOTHING behind the steering wheel?
It's not easy to stomach, I understand your pain.

It looks like the designer took a really good college course on industrial design that focused on usability and ergonomics, but then they hooked up with their professor and the teacher broke their heart, so the design student said to themselves out loud:
"No. Fuck that shit. I don't need your ergonomics, Melissa! I don't need you! Go back to Berkley and take your usability with you! I can make beautiful things without you! And without your stupid design rules!"

Ahh. The Quest.
I remember when these were new. I loved how the 3.5 SE looked but my dad sat in one and he called it a spaceship because of that center layout.

Every part of it was weird for the time.
But damn that made it special.

Correct! I had one of those in Guam for a bit over a month, she didn't have the digital speedo but that neato shifter (instead of you know, on the column) was a trip. Pretty decent for a minivan, the 3.5 rolled out.

But isn't this layout widely used by every European MPV?

Very popular, yes. Very French too, especially with the Multipla gone.

The roof centre thing and TV... There are plenty of car designs where people have been inspired by aircraft. This seems like the only one where that inspiration has come from economy class on a 737.

There's not nothing, there's a shallow little storage cubby. OH, and a little clip to hold like, a picture, or a business card or something.

Well, the exterior is kinda cute in that chubby, koala sort of way...especially with those side mirrors...

I just realized, all of the second-generation Sevel Nord vans also had a center-mounted instrument panel:
Peugeot 807
Lancia Phaedra
Fiat Ulysse
Citroen C8
Well, that settles it...it's definitely a Franco-Italian thing...but Nissan has its Renault cousins, so that explains the odd layout...
