After playing games with the dealer selling the V70R wagon (with them saying things like the cars not ready yet, even though its been on sale for months) I started thinking bullshit and started looking elsewhere for something else. Some people suggested that I find a nice used Saab wagon, and I did. A 9-3 Sport Combi. But the dealer I found it at had it out too long for repairs so again I searched, and I found the car im going to pick up today. Its a total opposite of what I was expecting to get but its fast and comfortable just like I wanted

Kinja'd!!!

Yep thats right. I found myself a 2004 Jaguar S Type R. Loaded with nav etc. What do you guys think? Praise and hating comments are accepted.

I've always like these. That said, they're often on lists of unreliable cars. But why not?

I've always thought the S-Type R was hella underrated. People love to crow about the Germans from that era, particularly the E39 M5, but they forget that the Jag offered similar power, arguably greater daily comfort, a classier interior and a more unique, less Germanic exterior, for a significantly lower cost today than an M5 or E55.

That being said, quite a few people on here disagree with me.

I'm into it. Just out of curiosity, how usable is a 12 year old nav system?

Top hat and Monocle required while driving.

Thats exactly why I was drawn to it. Because its rare also but because its really understated performance. Its a sleeper. Some people might say oh its just a a Lincoln LS in a Jag body but when they see my tail lights that might make them shut up.

Its pretty usable. Its not as horrible as I thought it would be. User interface and graphics wise though, you can tell its a 11 year old navigation system. It'll help me save some battery on my phone.

I had just started to look into that but I havent found anything yet. Im going to dig around the Jag forums and see what I can find. Im also going to ask my local Jag dealer.

Smart plan. At the very least it should serve you well for any long cross country drives.

I don't care how much people hate these, I love them.

I rented an LS about 11 years back and recall being more impressed with it than I thought I would. Air conditioned seats, decent handling, decent pull from the V6. Enjoy your Jaaaaag!

ohhh nice.

not sure about the reliability that others have mentioned. never kept up with the jags on those.

will say this: the S-type R was by far and away the best looking of them.

This should be interesting, I've been browsing the internet for an S-Type R myself before and was surprised by how cheap these are getting. Keep us updated, would love to know more about it.

very cool, I support this decision. 400hp supercharged Jaguar, what's not to like. It looks real clean, so hopefully it was taken care of and won't give you too much trouble. Good luck with it and have fun!

I nearly buy one of those a few years ago. I'm impressed by the power and the handling of that thing. It was blue on beige, and it's really magnificent.

But i don't have any balls to pull the trigger and buy an W140 S600 instead.

I've always been kinda iffy on the front end of these cars. It just looks half-finished, like a rough draft. The lights are too small, and the grill's too short. You can tell what they were trying to do, but for whatever reason (originality/safety/'00s styling norms), they just didn't get it quite right.

Congrats on getting it, though!

Awesome! I love my M5, but I looked hardcore for one of these before my car fell into my lap. Get an ECU tune and smaller supercharger pulley, maybe an exhaust (those 4.2 sound amazing) and let it eat! Clean car man, and an awesome color at that.

I always loved those cars. Retro, yes, but still gorgeous. The 2003+ ones like you got have the better interiors Jaguar added to keep pace against the Rover 75 on the UKDM.

Not my favorite jag, but I bet it's fun! I've always been interested in the early 2000's XJR, talk about a bargain Q car. Is this the same supercharged V8? Supposedly they are actually pretty reliable.

Thanks. Ive been looking into some after market exhaust for it, but the aftermarket for these things is almost non existent sadly.
