Very nice! You're in for a treat if you have never driven one before.

Hell Yah! I've got a 530 with a stick (I6) and love it. Been wanting to drive one of the V8 6MT E39s for a while now. Lucky you!
P.S. ~ Make sure all of the little buttons on the dash are there/not loose. They fall off super easily and are relatively pricey to replace! Also the dash pixels. Those go out all the time.

Things to watch;
-pixels on the dash die all the time. "Astn Eat Elts." So consistent with the E39 it should be expected.
-VANOS. These had double VANOS, one for each cylinder bank. In typical BMW fashion, the VANOS gears get damaged (but usually don't completely fail like they did on the E36s- good job for ALMOST fixing something BMW) at around 120-150k. Supposedly, and don't quote me on this, it has no performance or wear effects, but you can send out the gears to drVANOS to have them repaired if it really bothers you. It'll sound kind of diesel/direct-injection-esque on idle, and dissapears when revved above about 1k
-No LSD, unless someone put in the M5 diff. Depending on your preferences, this may be irrelevant.
-The auto-adjusting rear-view mirrors fail. it'll look like a bubble in the mirror, and eventually the fluid will leak out into the interior. You can have them sent out for repair and they typcally hold off after that, but it's something like $400
-Take off the mufflers if you buy it. Just do it.
-Some cars had issues with headlight and taillight leakage and electronics. Watch for condensation or complete failure.
Really, don't let any of these work as a deterrent, and instead as bargaining points. They're great cars, and that's a ridiculous engine.

I can tell there are some tuneup issues I'll have deal with but for $6000 I can deal with. Little rattles, suspension needs to tightened up and I'm fairly certain the timing chain tensioner will need to be replaced. I can do most of this work myself. But geez, that push from the v8, very intoxicating. It has the halo lights and newish tires. I feel like a little boy again.

I'm gonna do a ppi today. Got the car, stupid me, and I'm gonna soak up whatever comes my way. However, it was $6000 and I can't expect too much. I'm gonna take it to an independent shop that I trust and have them take a look at it. Probably timing chain tensioner and some front end work.

Congrats! No better way to get a torquey German V8 in such a nice package for that price tag. Definitely consider the exhaust though.
