Drives this XC70. BBC 1 series, fairly recent, and excellent. No Googling:

I haven't seen it, but I'll be very disappointed if it's not Wallander. It's a Swedish series, though, isn't it, even though it was shown here?

It is Wallander - good on you. They made it once in Sweden, it's astonishingly good. So is the one with Kenneth Branagh, a remake of the Swedish original. I cannot recommend them highly enough. And the 3 Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movies done in Sweden - better, slightly, than the Daniel Craig version.

I thought it looked a bit dark for my taste. Death in Paradise or Dirk Gently are more my style.
Or Montalbano, but I'm not sure how much of the stuff I find funny in that is actually supposed to be humorous.

We differ a bit - I like my Batman dark, I like my James Bond (Daniel Craig) no nonsense and dark. Try the Branagh Wallander and let me know what you think.

I don't really like any TV that's classed as drama rather than light entertainment. Or films, come to think of it. I like to switch off, not be made to think about bad things. I just don't get the point of the shows where everyone dies and bad stuff happens.

Whereas I hate sitcoms. And there's plenty out there for both of us. One of the cats and I are just now binge-watching MI-5, a pretty dark British series about spies. I love spies.

Oh, I hate sitcoms. I like the kind of thing where it's serious but light-hearted, perhaps with the odd proper joke rather than horribly contrived opportunity for canned laughter.
Actually, there's one thing I've watched recently that's just about the grimmest thing I've seen on TV, but that's one I've been watching for a while and just keeps getting darker and more sordid - Ripper Street.

Love Ripper Street . Seen Rosemary & Thyme ? Veddy British, and lighthearted murder detectives.

Oh god no - was my first reaction. I might have to give it a try, though. There's always Jonathan Creek...

And Poirot, bien sur!
