You are stuck at the South Pole in the arid frozen wasteland of Antartica. To your left a vicious Emperor penguin is waiting for the perfect moment to attack you. You have to pick one car and one route to escape. No modifications are allowed to be made to your vehicle. Once you reach a shore line a ship will come and pick you up and take you wherever your heart desires. What vehicle do you choose and why? Keep in mind the mpg to get to the shore.

AMC Eagle SX/4. Basically a jeep cherokee with a lighter, more aerodynamic body. As long as you let me have tires that aren't ass, I can pretty much book it as the crow flies to the closest bit of shore.

(As long as I can throw a few jerrycans in the bed.)

LeTourneau LCC1 . For a given value of "car".

While I'm at it, I'll blast that Emperor penguin's sorry ass.

New 'eco' boost Raptor

Efficient hydrogen powertrain.
Turret to shoot those dastardly penguins.
Super rugged.
So light you can flip it on its wheels if it rolls over.
It can take constant flac from plasma weapons and still function.
Hypothetical. (ha)

I'd be wanting to get out if there pretty quick. Those penguins are no joke

Points of Clarification:
Car/Suv/Truck, or motorised vehicle?
Prodution only, or is concept acceptable?
Am I allowed to carry jerrycans?

This works... it has four "wheels"
![]() 01/22/2015 at 11:36 |

i think that would get hung up on the terrain
![]() 01/22/2015 at 11:38 |

This should definitely be clarified. It's nearly 1,000 miles to the coast. Not many vehicles have that much highway range, much less able to go that distance in the difficult terrain and conditions likely to be found in the antarctic.

With huge fuel cell in the bed of the truck and of course a bumper dumper

Let me know when you guys need to be picked up.
Edit: The dogs could feast on the penguin for added mpgs...

The one question where the answer is Terrafugia Transition!

The penguin's not looking to attack you - he's just looking to hitch a ride back to the shore if he's at the South Pole. He's probably the victim of a cruel joke by some flyboy. Plus he'd probably be a good navigator.
Route is easy - take the highway: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Pol…
As for vehicle, Hilux hauling a big tank of fuel. Even still would prefer tracked tractor of some kind.

I have always wanted one of these.

The Aton Impulse! This is literally what it was made for.

I'll go with the Zil 4904 . There is enough room in the back to carry plenty of extra fuel and supplies and I don't see anything stopping this. As an added bonus you would be crossing Antarctica in classic Russian style.

Vehicle of your choice no planes. And jerrycans are allowed due to distance should have specified that.

See above post. I forgot to add in jerrycans are allowed.

A plane and a car?

I gotta say I did not see that one coming.

Where can I find more info on this?
![]() 01/22/2015 at 14:43 |

It's more a plane the drives but yeah. Airplanes are very useful for travel over terrain.
Emphasis on over.
![]() 01/22/2015 at 14:44 |

No idea there was a highway I guess you learn something new every day.

I was wondering who would be the first to notice I didn't not specify the kind of vehicle. Good observation!

Very specific role it would have to be hard to make a profit.

Those things are so awesome. I just posted this picture to Oppo and found a video showing smaller versions of it cruising around. I'm pretty confident that this is one of the few vehicles that would have a legitimate shot of making it from the pole to the coast.

"Byrd's Snow Cruiser":

Too bad it was lost to the Antarctic snow that would be very cool for a museum.

Then Ken Block's Raptor with the tracks or the ZR2 Colorado. The raptor would go through anything, but the Colorado would have the edge in range. I think the big machines people are suggesting are too thirsty to get through, but this is all off the top of my head without doing any research. If they DO have sufficient range, then that screw-driven thing.

Ha that's a term used very loosely in this case. It's just a snow road. When they are hauling supplies it usually takes more than a month to get from McMurdo to the pole.
