1. Tow straps are not snatch straps and are not dynamic

2. "tow hooks" are usually shipping hooks and are not load rated

Are you sure about #3? I'm pretty sure they are load rated and advertised as tow points.

Here's from Mopar, the exact replacement part from a 1500.

Haven't seen that before but I never get tired of carnage caused by misunderstanding physics! At least the strap didn't break and the truck came off the berm.

There is a difference between a shipping hook, a "tow" hook and a rated recovery hook. Most trucks have either shipping hooks or tow hooks and they are meant only for light duty static loads. Rated recovery hooks are rated at 1.5 the gvwr (like the ones linked, except more than 5500 lbs) a truck the size of my cruiser requires a 4 3/4 ton working load rating, or 9500 lbs minimum. Recovery hooks are never mounted to a factory bumper. Always direct to the frame

Where did that D-ring come from? It doesn't look factory. And that's not full frame out there where the D-ring was bolted on. I _might_ have gotten away with a stunt like that in my old Suburban, where we custom built the front bumper and welded it to the frame in multiple points, plus the 2" receiver tube welded into the bumper is also welded with a cross brace about 2 feet behind the bumper going across to both frame rails.
