I actually like windows 8, the UI takes a minute to learn but once you do its actually easy to organize and use.

You know, I spent about an hour last night tinkering with it and getting used to the navigation. I never used 8 but 8.1 supposedly improved a lot of things, and so far it's fine. The tile UI feels a little redundant without a touchscreen, but it's a nice change of pace once in a while. I do miss the start menu but it's coming in an official update very soon. Also if you right click on the windows button at lower left it opens a very bare-bones task list.

try Classic Shell! It replaces some of the more annoying things about Windows 8/8.1 and can give you the old start menu back.
