"Too many M's" (toomanyms)
01/16/2015 at 11:10 • Filed to: None | 3 | 51 |
It's certainly no secret I am a BMW fan. My screen name says it all. Bimmerpost has posted info from the dealer ordering guide that the new M2 will be available from November this year!!!!
I cannot wait, this is much earlier than anyone has expected and I am quite beside myself with excitement. My wife has written me off as a proper nutter. Since the sale of my E90 M3, my cars will soon be only two-doors with two kids. I am surely mad.
I have high hopes for this car. I wish BMW could keep it minimalist like the E82 1M was, but knowing the marketing department and what they made standard on the F8x M3/M4 I don't think it will be. Still, it could be the closest thing to the modern (new) barebones M-car they will offer for the years to come.

I briefly misread this as "New MR2 info." I'm now disappointed.

Looks so much better than the F8x... What the latest rumor on how much it will weight?
And yes, you are mad to have only two-doors with two kids. Ha!

I wonder if this will let some air out of the 1M price balloon.

Don't think we'll see anything like that for as long as the GT86 remains alive.

Excellent news! What will power this thing btw? Another turbocharged I6, just less power than the m3/4? With less weight and less size to haul around it should definitely be quite the M car, going back to their roots.
Very keen to see how much this affects prices of everything from M3s to 1Ms on the used market (and for this hitting the used market in a few years)....and they better not make this a super limited production run again. Everybody needs an M2!

True... I'm still hoping that whichever insane person was on Toyota's board in the 80s comes out of retirement to sign off on some new models.

Anywhere from 3000-3300lbs. Certainly nothing official yet.
I quite like the looks, much more discernible between the M2 and M235i vs the M4 and 435i M-sport

The M235i is just over 3500. In the past, M cars actually weighed more than their siblings. Do you really think they can put enough lightweight tech in this car at the price they need to sell it? I'd be amazed if it was under 3300, honestly, but I hope they get there.

It's been confirmed to be higher production than the 1M, likely to be around as long as the current-gen 2er is.
Power wise it will have the N55 with new internals and around 360-380bhp. No confirmed power numbers yet.
Knowing how much tech is in new cars across the lineup, analog-ish cars like the E9X M3s and the VERY limited 1M might hold steady for a while like the Porsche market after the 991 announcement. Some models might see a downturn in value due to some normal market depreciation but look forward to clean models in the lineup holding or gaining value in the future

If they put similar tech into it like they showed on the new Z-car prototype (M235i body with chopped roof) then they might. With barebones/base F8Xs sub-3500 they could make it work.

Indeed, even mold formed and painted would make the biggest difference. Hand-laid would be beautiful to look at though.

Can't wait for the car to actually be revealed so we can learn what specs the car will have. I do think most of the speculation for it probably correct. 370 hp, a little under 3500 lbs, cf roof (hopefully, but I doubt it), ~4.2 sec to 60 (sub 4 would be perfect), etc.

In all honestly though. I'd prefer a 228i with a manual and sport suspension. I think it would be more true to the car.

I wish it was less
But I doubt it
But it will still be good
If you study BMW weights over time none of the M cars have ever been light. A bimmer is always heavier than a 911. But it still manages to beat the base Carrera a lot of the time

ABS, airbags, traction control...
All these things add up. Can only go so low these days. My '05 Mazda 3s hatch (manual, no ABS or side airbags) weighed 2750 lbs. That car was truly "tossable".

If we are talking true to modern BMWs, the E82 128i M-sport deserves an honorable mention. It's NA, had in a manual, hydraulic steering and can still be found CPO. It will be a future classic like the E30 318is, I have no doubt in my mind.

Hahahaha
What do you think about the 2009-2011 Cayman S and Cayman R cars?
I think they might be the best Porsche value out there right now.
The best value was the 964 until recently. But the 964 secret got out about 18 months ago and prices shot up. Everyone realized that they were a crazy good deal compared to the 993.
Right now the facelifted 987s with the DFI motors seem to be the best deals. The 997.2 cars are still pretty expensive. Especially the C2S and GTS

omg so crazy!
i'm so used to ABS that it would be hard to remember to drive different in a car without it.
when trouble hits i just mash the brakes and let ABS do its thing

I'd rather have a '13-14 Cayman S or GTS.
I think the 964 secret coming out was my fault...
Manuél Ferrari
> K-Roll-PorscheTamer
01/16/2015 at 17:01 | 0 |
I love the current Cayman GTS too. I'm not saying which car is better. Just asking what is the best value. The current Cayman S and GTS are EXPENSIVE. Even if you buy a used one it's still very expensive.
Haha don't feel bad. The 964 secret isn't your fault. There are many forums you are probably not on where it was discussed. And a lot of people figured it out on their own. People who wanted a more modern air cooled 911 than the Carrera 3.2 started out looking for 993s but realized how insanely expensive they were.

Hell, I'd still take a newer Cayman S over the previous one, even if it doesn't come with a handbrake! You can find Used S's for $60-70k, that's not bad.
And are you sure about that?

60-70K isn't bad. but it's definitely not cheap! you can get the prior one CHEAP
haha i remember that post
i don't think it single handily ruined 964 prices though
not many people on oppo even buy porsches

the only thing that scares me, even if the car is light and has great brakes, is hitting a poor road surface
i was exiting the freeway late at night recently in the 997. i was going very fast cause it was a long off ramp and nobody was in front of me. late braking is fun
right as i was about to brake i saw a stream of water. a sprinkler was broken and water was going across the off ramp
it was too late to change my mind as my foot was hitting the brake pedal as i hit the water. ABS did it's thing and all was well. may have been scary without it due to how fast i was going when i hit the brakes
