A good mozzarella makes a good pizza.

You can fuck up the sauce and dough.

As long as the cheese is up to snuff.

On a personal side note: the only place I don't want any meat is in pizza. Mushroom pizza is best pizza.

Pizza-the-Hutt!!

It depends how you fuck up the sauce and the dough. IMO, the dough is less important but I would say the cheese and the sauce are equally important. I might be able to make a case for the sauce over the cheese.

Just use fresh mozzarella and you'll probably be fine. Even the Kraft mozzarella is serviceable if you're feeling lazy but it must be mozzarella . Long story short, the cheese can easily fuck up your pizza but it's also the easiest to get right.

Pizza sauce? Maybe I should write an article on what I think the best pizza sauce recipe is. The recipe I use is pretty simple, tomato sauce, tomato paste (for texture), garlic, basil, oregano, paprika, marjoram. The marjoram and garlic are essential, the rest could (and maybe should) be replaced with an Italian Spice medley. This needs to be done to taste though because you don't want the sauce overpowering the other ingredients (like the cheese). I also add red wine to my sauce.

Crust? Well, good bread makes it better but isn't the deal breaker. It can bring you from good to excellent but unlikely to go from excellent to bad like cheese or sauce can do.
