Subaru nerd here - I never understood Real Time 4WD. Does anyone know what the system does? I always figured it was similar to the Full Time 4WD system that some Subaru's had in the late 80s - a 90/10 split between front and rear (the Subaru's also had a manually locking center diff to make it a 50/50 split). Explanation anyone?

Basically, yeah, that. Actually I think the Civic was 100% FWD until the wheels slipped, only then sending power to the back. I could be wrong on that. No manual 50/50 split, either - that would've been sweet.

My '87 Subaru had Full Time 4WD with the locking center diff, and low range 4WD. Unstoppable.
