I finally have the wife out of the garage so I can get to work on this thing. I have plenty of room to work when I park the car sideways in the garage. I have a good 5 feet all the way around. just a shame the floor is all muddy from the slush on the wife's car.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Got it on Jack stands so I could take the tires off.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I don't think I should of even touched the parking brake since now I can't get it to release properly.

Kinja'd!!!

This is as far as I've been able to hammer the drum off. At first I thought it was rust holding it in place but now I know that the parking brake is definitely still engaged. I'll mess with it a bit more tomorrow, hopefully I can get it to release.

Kinja'd!!!

Incase you are wondering what I'm doing, I'm doing a ring & pinion swap as well as installing a spool. planning to go from a ridiculous 2.47:1 gear ration to 3.25:1 for a WHOLE LOT of added acceleration. once I got the car jacked up I noticed the pinion seal is leaking so I guess it's the right time to do a full rear end rebuild.

I love how this one car has completely taken over your two car garage.

Hope you can do an Oppo review. These dinosaurs can be had for a steal. Such great cars.

Yes I will do an Oppo review once I have it tuned up and all polished up. The car as it sits isn't much but with a little bit of love and time I'm sure I can make it into something special.

I got it for $1500.00 with 91,000 km's (56,800 miles) on it. The car runs and drives just fine.

Interior is MINT!

Exterior is oxidized but definitely salvageable.

The underneath is a bit on the rusty side. Not rotten but rusty. I'll take a wire wheel to it and clean it up as best I can then shoot it with some black rust paint.

The exhaust is the only thing that can't be saved. It's not leaking yet but I'm sure if I hit a bump hard enough the exhaust would fall right off.

Sounds about right. She was complaining yet she has the only vehicle with a remote car starter.

I cant remember, I haven't done drums in a while, but couldn't you turn the brake adjuster to get the shoes away from the drum even with applied brakes?

I've never done drums before so it's all new to me. Disk are just so much easier.

both are easy, but yeah disks are cake.

I changed drums on my S10 long ago, there was an access on the back plate to get to the adjuster. I have a feeling backing that down may help if you are unable to release your parking brake.

back the adjuster on the piston down to adjust the shoes off the drums. It might be a while you are in there job but replacing the shoes might be a good idea. Just take lots of pictures so you know how they go back together or do one side at a time. It is nice to see an old Linc getting some love on here, they deserve more love than they generally get.

Yeah I looked in my haynes manual and saw how to loosen the shoes.I might try to get at it tonight. I'll inspect the brakes once I'm in there and if they could use replacing I'll take care of it.

If they haven't been serviced in a while just change all the drum parts since you are in there.

Take the drums off of both sides, get them cut or replaced, get new shoes and new drum hardware. Then take apart one side of the car, rebuild it (using the other assembled side for reference if you need it) and once that's done do the other side. Wear safety glasses.

I've always really loved this generations of Conti's and Town Cars. I have crazy illusions of one day owning a mini tubbed, blown 460, Town Car that is completely stock on the interior (minus a T56, Sabelt 5 points, and a hoop) with air ride and some tasteful wheels. I've spent alot of time working this out in my head obv.

I sort of have the same unnatural thoughts going thru my head at the moment. I'm doing a spooled rear end with numerically higher gears 3.25:1 vs 2.47:1.

28"x12"x15" Mickey thompson tires on 15"x10" wheels for the back.

I eventually plan on doing a LSx Turbo swap but that would be long down the road.

My only obstacle is money! everything else in this car is pretty stout. 31 spline 9" ford rear end,C6 Tranny, fully boxed frame. this thing is meant to be a drag racer.

I'm planning to keep a totally stock exterior(minus the wheels and tires) and interior(except I might add a tach).

We may have been separated at birth. Everyone that I tell about this idea looks at me like I have a third eye. Don't go to the LSx dark side, keep it FoMoCo. What motor does yours have? If it already has the 400, or 460 just rebuild it. A built NA 460 should easily give you 500+ ft lbs. LSx's are all small blocks and aren't going to give you the kind of torque you'll need at low rpm to make these behemoth's move.

Mine has the 400. 159hp & 315ft/lb. I plan on hoping it up a bit nothing major.

Cam, Edlebrock intake & 750cfm carb, Full 3" Exhaust and maybe a set of heads.

If I do the heads then I'm be damn close to the 300hp & 500ft/lb mark.

Keep in ming the 400 is also a small block it just used a big block bellhousing and motor mount location.

Interesting, but it makes sense I guess. I always thought the 400's were big blocks. Something to think about, if the go fast parts on a 400 are the same cost as the 460 wouldn't it make sense to leave the 400 alone, get the 460 and build it on a stand and eventually drop it into the car once it's ready? It may cost you a little more in the long run, but you're going to make alot more power. Further, you wouldn't be spending money on go-fast parts twice.

That 351M/400 is an abortion... but please don't LS this beauty! I mean, I love the LS more than most (I own a C5 Corvette and am an unapologetic LS fanboi), but it just ain't right. This car is begging for an FE! The bigger, the better. And don't bother with those 385 series engines either, they belong in dump trucks and irrigation pumps...

If you want to cross over from " awesome " to " Jalop GOD " swap in a Modular V-10 from an Econoline or something! They're cheap, and the later 3-valve heads actually flow pretty well. I imagine they respond well to positive manifold pressure because... well, I want them to.

a turboed ford v10 would definitely be a good conversation starter. I'm not doing any type of swap in the near future for now I'm just gonna do a few minor things to the good running motor I already have.
