I have (had) an R9 270 in my PC for around 7 months now, but I haven't played ANY games since November... now I'm considering selling the card for around $100 on CL. I have an old (Circa 2008) Nvidia 8600 GTS card in my PC right now and with the latest drivers (June 2014) it somehow scored the same as my newish R9 270 in the Windows Experience Index!
So, should I sell it or not?

If there's a distinct possibility that you might use it again, or regret selling it then keep it!

If I really need something heavy duty then I'll steal my R7 240 2GB out of my dad's computer (the one that the 8600 came in)
But sadly I've changed to PS3 gaming mostly... that and for some reason anytime I played BF3 or 4 the video card would always heat up to the point where it would start throttling :( NOT GOOD
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:44 |

Ah, Then sell it if you really need the money.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:44 |

BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT I WANT TO SPEND IT ON
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:46 |

Crack. Or cocaine, depending on how much you get for the card.
/Bad advice

AYUU M RIMS YO.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:47 |

Oh
I was going to spend it on some form of car parts (lowering springs?)

As someone who just recently got in to playing TF2 on PC, and is quite enjoying the library of Steam games, I might recommend against selling it. But I am definitely biased.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:48 |

Well, I guess you could do that. Or buy RC cars.

R9 270. Will trade for 18x8 wheels with tires. No other trades!

Windows experience index means jack shit fyi, its basically "is this better than intel integrated? Yes? 10.0!"
The r9 270 is more powerful than 3 8600 GTS combined
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:49 |

Yes Exactly that, Haha.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:49 |

I haven't gamed in around 3 months...
however my PS3 is working overtime here!

WEI is a tiny bit broken. My PC scores a 5.9 because I don't have an SSD, but it plays everything it comes up against.
Keep the card, there will always be games to play.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:50 |

Nah, I got an older Traxxas RC truck that kicks ass! just needs new batteries... maybe
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:51 |

I figured that out... I lol'd when I saw the score! It works fine for light gaming and every day use. If I need to do anything heavy that is why I have 16gb of DDR3 ram and an FX8320!
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:51 |

But cash money!? And car parts!?
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:52 |

lol or lowering springs and a sway bar :P
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:54 |
|
Didn't you just get new tires or something? Maybe a can of Plasti Dip, sway bar and those lowering springs should do for now.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 21:55 |

Wait, wait...
Your windows experience scored is limited by hard drives.
The GPU is a completely different animal. If you want a real score, download 3D Mark 9 or 11. Run it on default settings and youll see the difference on your GPU's.
The windows score is utter BS. Unless you have an SSD you're limited to 5.9 .
Please DO NOT USE the fricking Windows score as a means of a performance test on a computer.

Yes I just got two new(ish) tires on Monday
![]() 01/11/2015 at 22:02 |

So do the other stuffs!
![]() 01/11/2015 at 22:03 |
|
I know that :P
I was joking about it... but for what I do with the computer the 8600 would work fine
![]() 01/11/2015 at 22:04 |
|
Oh, and if you do plan on running 3D Mark 9 or 11. Don't try it on that old card. It'll probably cook it and if it doesn't it'll hang it up on something else.
3D Mark software is a better means of a test on a graphics card. It runs thru EVERY setting EVERY game could have and other settings found in things like 3D modeling computers to test a graphics card.
There's programs out there that are used to benchmark specific parts on PC's, if thats what you are trying to do.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 22:04 |

But the rear sway bars are impossible to find for under $200!
Maybe I could custom make one? Or have the big spring shop (Atlas Spring and Axle) in town make one and custom fab lowering springs!

Im in the middle of an upgrade at the moment myself.
My computer from 2011 isn't hacking anymore for me.
However, I do play PC games and my PC is getting to the end of its rope. I'm going to turn my current into a HTPC and build a new one. 200 bucks to convert my current into an HTPC and probably 2000 for a new computer that will hang for 2-3 years

I spent right around $1k for a computer with:
Asrock 990FX Fatal1ty
AMD FX8320
Antec Kuhler H2O 620
8GB (2x4) Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600
8GB (2x4) G.Skill RipJaws X DDR3-2133
750W EVGA Supernova 750G2
R9 270 MSI
Thermaltake A60 AMD Edition
120GB Kingston SSD (Boot drive)
2x 1 TB WD Black
Seagate Barracuda 500GB (Games)
A shitload of fans
Windows 8

If you don't plan to use it then go ahead and sell it. How old is your PS3 though?
![]() 01/11/2015 at 22:19 |

Current is
i5 2500k @ 4.5 ghz
EVGA 670 FTW
EVGA Z68 SLI board
Corsair 750W PSU
8 GB of Ram, then typical computer stuff
New
i7 4790k
EVGA 970 (some sub model, haven't picked yet)
Been looking at some of the new ASUS mobo's, but haven't nailed down my pick
Modular PSU, my old one wasnt and i had a rats nest in the bottom of my PC.
16gb of Ram
I bought a 128 GB SSD for the new build for the OS and other programs i use HEAVILY
then a 4TB backup for my 2TB main drive.
I'm a computer, Chevy LSx, Nissan RB/SR, Toyota JZ nerd. If im not nerding out over some motor or build, then my wad is blown on computer stuff..
Sadly, I work as a lowly IT guy at an auction, fixing junk Dell optiplex's.

Mid 2011. I bought it in July 2011 for $150 new! It was an open box because it had been returned after a week... the only thing wrong was it was missing the usb charging cord for the controller!

Yea, I'm used and relied upon heavily in my group of friends.
I can fix their car or computer for the low low price of beer and pizza.

Well just warning you, they do have a tendency to overheat so of you are putting a bunch of hours on it, get an external cooler.
![]() 01/11/2015 at 22:24 |

lololol I would do that!
![]() 01/11/2015 at 22:24 |

I'll look into it

Do it! That's a good price, Maybe Racelands? Those are cheap coilovers.

Ah, all my friends I hang out with on a regular basis, I've known since high school.
Still the same old group of awkward sarcastic arseholes.
I was dared Friday night, with friends, to walk around the grocery store with my hand in my pants and holding my buddie's hand while acting like a kid. Needless to say, Im not allowed in that Krogers no more and I won the bet.

Well, as I've been coveting a shiny new GTX 970 to aid in my Witcheriffic ambitions for the future - according to the spec sheet, I could probably do with a new processor, too, but I cannot be arsed to actually replace my motherboard/rebuild my entire PC, so fuuuuuuck that - I'm inclined to say, 'Are you crazy?' but, hey—if you don't need it, you don't need it.
