I live less than 1000 feet from a stretch of road that is dead straight for 3/4 mile and is a pretty obvious place for impromptu street races. I actually love hearing people wind their hoopties out at night, especially when I can identify something about the engines...
Hmm, natrually aspirated V8....
Turbo V6...
I4 with, wait for it.... VTEC!

Around here it's mostly bikes and electric busses. I'm jelly.

I mostly hear trucks and bikes for most of the year. and in the winter, just trucks. loud gurgley noises from those behemoth engines.

My college dorm was next to a pretty steep freeway hill and the semis jake braking down the hill all night long became very comforting to me.

I live in the burnout capital of Melbourne, always a nice soundtrack in the late evenings. Mostly 8s but when it rains the 6s come out to play.
Beats the ocean or wildlife or whatever

I occasionally hear an M5 or Quattroporte pulling into my neighbors' driveways at ungodly hours of the night. Freakin' annoying, really.

These are distant enough to be slightly muted by the rows of houses and trees in between.

We live near a 1/4 mile straight stretch following a really nice twisty country road and you can hear all sorts of juicy engines pulling down that straight. I absolutely love it :)
