Let me start you off with some of the easy ones.
Lamborghini straps an airplane to their car, to give a nice flat surface to chop your coke on. Is it a coincidence that this looks a lot like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! wing?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Porsche proves that you CAN get the 911's engine to stay at the back, you just need to try really, really hard.
Plymouth homologates a classic rules workaround. Trunk must open? OK, no problem.
Ford gives bad ideas to a whole generation of ricers.
..and my personal favourite, small but unsubtle: Lancia takes spoiling the airflow literally. Air go up , car go down . We don't care about no stinkin' aerodynamics, we got GROUP B MOJO, dammit.
What else you got? Homologation specials count (clearly) but no pure racecar stuff, we all know they can go crazy.

I like Porsche RSR whale tails. They were pretty much used in race cars only but still some street cars had them too. It is slightly larger than the more common "turbo tail".

it sure was, being able to take wins away from the likes of the quattro and 205 t16 requires a brutal car (+ great driver)

That's nuts alright, but extra coolness points go to the original. Just like the Escort Cozzie's sillier than the Sierra Cozzie, but the Sierra one's cooler.

Bout to make myself look like a big 911 nerd, but actually the Iroc tail is the original. The Iroc RSR was produced in 1974 and was only released to racing programs. In 1985 porsche made the first 930 or 911 Turbo as most people know it. That's the one that people associate with the classic porsche tail. But the tail that is most famous (the one you pictured) was on the later 930s and is different from the one on the first few model years.

I bow to your superior nerdiness :-). I thought the 930 was the original and earlier street cars had ducktails.

Another nice one I'd forgotten. I hated the look of the XKRS - thought they'd ruined the whole thing by trying too hard. But somehow by turning it up past 11 on the RS GT, they've made it work. In an Oh-my-God sort of way....

11 years is quite the relationship. How's it holding up? I have a friend who had a few of the earlier (III-VI) models but gave up on them because they rattled themselves to pieces in 20k miles or so.

Well technically you are correct because the IROC cars were produced for the international race of champions, and were never sold direct through dealerships to consumers originally. They were somewhere between a homoligation and a true race car. After the end of the IROC racing series, the cars ended up in regular consumers hands. Today they fetch stupid amounts of money, because they were produced in such few numbers.

pretty well. The radiator failed last summer and I dropped an aftermarket unit in. Stock otherwise. Still running the original clutch at 150,000 miles. The interior squeaks a bit when it is cold, but it is a Mitsubishi and not a Maybach. I did have to get the wing re-clear coated after the original system failed. Saved the carbon though.
If only EssExTee could be so grossly incandescent

From my first car!
The AW11 MR2's spoiler was
perfect
for the car. So 80's!
And the car is REALLY lacking without it (if you haven't seen it, do your eyes a favor and don't search ;).

It's just big and obnoxious to me.
Like I get that the car is great, but this part of it just kills it visually for me.
I guess I never really thought about what it is that I don't like about it... but if I say now, I think the worst thing it has going for it is that the spoiler extends from the c-pillar and not the trunk/rear.
On top of that, it's really tall - which is hard to pull off by itself - and visually unclean to me because of the (necessary, I know) support in the center of it connecting the trunk. The mk4 Supra has a tall spoiler, but it's very well done and much cleaner without a center support.
Center support gone and the spoiler extending from the trunk and I think my aesthetic views would be completely changed.
