I don't know why, but I can feel it. The E28, in my opinion, is the greatest looking BMW ever produced. I need to pick one up before they get too pricey. How awful are these in terms of maintenance?

This is SOO true

It's becoming nearly impossible to find clean ones

Any car that's clean and doesn't already have 200K miles on it is going to go up in value

Any clean and relatively low mirage E28 535 or M5 or E24 635 or M6 is gold. The big six rules!

The engines and transmissions are strong, but you'll have to start replacing every plastic piece in the engine, lots of the wiring, and there are lots of sensors, and it can be a pia tracking down issues with them. I spent about a month replacing various sensors and wires trying to track down a weird running issue in my E30. It ended up being a fried DME. Mechanically they're easy to work on though with regular tools. They're put together in a very logical and easy to access way. I don't think they'll get too expensive only because they can be a pain to maintain and mechanically aren't anything too special. They're just beautiful and ha doe very well for an older car.

They are among the best-looking 5s.

Soon?

It's already happening.

The only sharknose BMW that has stayed relatively stable since the M3 boom is the 6-series.

I spotted a couple on craigslist earlier but they had north of 200,000 miles. Thats a bit too much for me if I were to pick one up!

almost all of them have 200,000 + miles!

Because they are reliable and fun to drive. So hard to find one with less than 150,000 miles

I disagree about that being the best looking production BMW as I'm partial to the 635csi. Unfortunately the price of those has already started to rise.

635csi's are the second best haha

But ya they're absurdly expensive right now.

I know nothing and when you know nothing you check a car forum if your are seriously interested I think you should do the same. If you buy one I'm sure you wouldn't be dissapointed. That is a special era for BMW.

I'm looking into them for myself and also for my dad. He's got a '99 Suburban with 250k miles that he wants to get rid of. His requirements for his next car is that it's got a stick and he'd love a 5 series. I think one of these would be perfect for him.

Brb checking every forum known to mankind.

That's true. In a couple of years they will all be too expensive. The 6 series sharknoses have already gotten to be pretty damn pricey.

Yeah, but the 6-series are not increasing and staying relatively stable for now. Still, I doubt you'll be able to buy a pre-1990 BMW (E30 318/325 excepted) for under $10,000 in the near future.

Basically every 80's bmw is going up in price now....

Hell, I just watched a restored 745i on BAT sell for 13,500. I've ever seen one above 7 grand.

I don't remember replacing every plastic piece in the engine bay on my 745i. Hell my car ran for the first time in 6 years on the 6 year old gas.

Every piece of plastic in the engine bay of my E30 was dried out, and a lot of it was cracked in some way. All the wires were brittle too. Mine was a DD for 31 years, so that probably has a lot to do with it. It sounds like yours did some sitting.

They're gettin to be pretty pricey. The ones in decent shape that is.

How's your car coming along? You were swapping a manual into your 7 series, right?

yep, in a couple of weeks I hope to have the engine and trans pulled from my 86 735i parts car. Just ordered a new kevlar clutch and uuc evo3 short throw shifter last night

Mine sat for 6 years in a forest under a tarp.

I guess I shouldn't be totally surprised since the coolant line for the expansion tank cracked off on my parts car when my friend bumped it with a wrench

Mine has spent its entire life in AZ, so that doesn't help either. No rust at all, but the paint is worn.
