So I'm at work and all of a sudden theres a car alarm going off. I look outside and the lights are flashing on my E39 and the alarm is going off, so I hit the lock/unlock on the fob to cancel the alarm. I walk out a few min later to see if someone hit it and all of the windows have rolled themselves down and the sunroof is open. They were all closed when I parked...
Is this like an emergency feature or something?

If you hit the unlock button and hold it the windows go down and sunroof opens

Its just a convenience feature so if its a nice day when you're walking back to your car you hit the unlock button twice and hold it down and all your doors will unlock and windows go down before you even get there

in the USA models , the reverse is disabled. If you can find someone with a GT-1 BMW coding tool, they can enable your car to be able to close windows and sunroof with the key.

it sounds like you're a noob. That's cute.
Google BMW INPA and EDIABAS and GT-1 coding for E39s

Oops, I misread your comment. I thought that you were referring to the reverse gear being disabled lol. No but that would be dope to be able to close everything with the key as well.

It's a feature to put the windows down and open the sunroof remotely, useful in the hot summer to let your car air out a bit before you get in.
Also people walking past it will set off the alarm with the windows down, at least that's what happens somewhat often with my friend's M5.
