Will be $1000 to $3000 cheaper.
Cadillac will still grow prices gradually, on each new model. But at a slower pace.

That's because they still sell the XTS for about the same amount as the CTS. It's easy to confuse and distract Americans.

The CTS has been a clear 5-series competitor for years now, now that theres the ATS this should be clearer than ever before.

The problem with the previous CTS is that it was a 5-Series competitor priced to compete with the 3-Series, which (to luxury car buyers) meant it couldn't possibly compete with the 5-Series.

I hate to say it, because I love the car, but that grille has to go.

This definitely makes the CTS the value leader in the category now. Which, I still think it was even before the price cut.

The first two generations of CTS did well because they gave you 5-series/E-class size for 3-series/C-class money.
It's now crept up into being a straight up 5-series/E-class competitor, just a few grand less. Which people aren't quite prepared to pay yet.
The CTS V-Sport is a pretty decent value compared to the 550i and S6 though. A lightly-optioned 550i M Sport is $70k and the S6 starts at $75k. A similarly-equipped CTS V-Sport is $55k.
But the V-Sport is far from the volume leader of the CTS line.

Priced and in terms of size the last-gen CTS was a bit of an in-betweener. Not as big as a 5-series, but bigger than a 3-series.
This generation of CTS though is definitely squarely in the sights of the 5-series, much to the dismay of returning CTS buyers/leasers.
But yeah, your OP point still stands.

Supposed to be. Looks like a stretched computer image in physical form. It's pretty awful.
