UPDATE 1/22/15 2:41PM EST: Sold for $56,750.
If you're the buyer, let me know in the comments so we can follow up on the car. We'd love to know more details on the car and where it will end up.
UPDATE 1/22/2015 8:33AM EST: With 4 hours left, the bidding is at $30,500USD.
This week in GSA Auction Watch: a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Our friends over at the US Marshals Service seem to have happened upon a hookers-and-blow-era 911 and it's up for sale. Members Only jacket and Thriller tape not included.
I would entirely support new legislation or policy that would require government sales to report the story behind whatever it is that they are selling. If so, we'd have an idea what the previous owner of this beast did to deserve ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) the forfeiture of his car. The car is in Puerto Rico, so you know there's a good story.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It's not in the best cosmetic shape, but the clock shows a little over 44K .
The rest of the coupe has a protective layer of dust.
The interior, which is oh, so burghundy, needs a visit from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but it's all there.
The bidding at the time of this posting is a non-reserve-meeting $16,600 with 14 days left on the auction. Post your guesses below for the final selling price.

Not necessarily. There is a huge market shipping used cars from the US to the Caribbean, northbound rates are pretty reasonable depending on the time of the year.
Admittedly though, it's been several years since I've had to move a vehicle.

Well at 5 grand it's not an issue at all, but I think it's safe to assume that it will be sold for significantly more in the end. And if you then have to factor in labour for the manual conversion... I'm not sure if it would end up being a good deal.

True, no customs involved between PR and mainland USA, however it automatically comes under Jones Act cabotage regulations, limiting such shipping to US-built and flagged vessels, with (mostly) US crew paid US wages. The chicken tax and the 25-year import rule have nothing on the level of protectionism enjoyed by the US merchant marine.

You live in Pacific, MO.
The coolest thing about Nike Elementary is the elevator lifts still work and the school district parks crap down in the bottom of it of the missile pits.
There is another base that just came up for auction near Rosebud, IL (about and hour SE of St Louis) and it was private and still had one operating elevator lift.

Ugh govt auctions drive me nuts.. Stuff always sells for wayyy more than what it's worth after people start fighting over said item like a pack of hungry dogs. It doesn't help that thanks to these get rich auction tv shows people go insane with bids. There was a 97 Ferrari 456 that sold for I believe 65k , it didn't start, was missing parts, the rear subframe/ suspension was bent. I mentioned on a local forum that it would be only worth buying if you got it for under 20k or just happened to have the parts to fix it. Sure enough auction day came and people went crazy! My friend who is a master Ferrari tech and I were watching the bidding laughing but then reality sank in and we realized that someone just bought that.

With absolutely no indication of the reserve on this auction, how exactly is it the "deal of the century?" Something tells me the person responsible for selling this vehicle has done their 5 minutes of due diligence on Google, and knows exactly what a gray-market 930 Turbo is worth on the used car market. It's also not that hard to estimate what the cosmetic repairs will cost, and figure an appropriate base price from there. It may be a screaming deal now, but it's not going to sell for anywhere near that little.

Too many idiot bidders who feel like they need to "win". And then some of them try to take off after they've realized they bid too much because they were fucking idiots with the irrational need to "win".

Wowza. So basically if you're lucky and all that's wrong with this example is a thick coating of dust, the auction winner makes out real good? Does the fact that the car spent time in PR under dubious circumstances detract from its value at all in the Porsche circles? Is that a black mark on its pedigree so to speak? Or is the only gamble here whether or not it is mechanically sound?
