According to a group of researchers !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
Well, that's not quite what they said. The researchers, writing in the Journal of Physiology (and yay to them for not trying to charge me $75 to read the article), essentially found that serious amateur cyclists between 55 and 79 years old don't show the physiological effects of aging the way that the researchers expected.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of King's College London !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! "We had assumed that there is a linear straight line decline in physiology with ageing but that is very unlikely to be the case. We're not saying we're reversing ageing but that cycling seems to optimise the ageing process."
The journal article concludes: "the relationship between chronological age and most functions is complex, as is highlighted by the wide range of ages accommodated in any given bandwidth of function. The biological ageing process, even when free from confounding factors, is thus likely to be highly individualistic. "
So maybe I will die. Crap.

This statement right here kind of negates the whole idea though.
That is like the weather man coming onto the TV and saying "Tomorrow it is going to rain, unless it doesn't rain in your area, because of where you are. Then it may just be cloudy or sunny. The weather will differ from place to place."

I ride & build trail with guys around & over 60 who are absolutely killing it, and show no sign of slowing down. I just hope that's me in a couple of decades.

I've ridden the Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour many times with a friend who did it up until his 80th birthday. He was finding 214 miles in two days a bit of a slog by the end of the second day.

I think it's more like "average height is increasing, but that doesn't mean everybody's going to be 6'3"."
