Probably the same reasons why Subaru won't develop anything crazy-awesome like a mid-engine flat-6 supercar like this Saker GT utilizing a Subi flat-6 motor.

They don't have the money to chance funding the R&D, marketing, and maintenance behind producing a high-performance sports car because they are(Subi)/were(Toyota) still a "small" automotive company. Halo cars rarely return any sort of profit; Bugatti Veryons and Lexus LFAs lost money for their makers with each one sold, and for 60s/70s Toyota they couldn't afford to waste money on something dangerously radical when they had bread-n-butter civilized cars to produce for then-new markets like the United States. Would it be awesome? Yes. Would it by financially risky for them? Totally.
