I was browsing Craigslist today and stumbled across the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :

This is a TRUE Collector CAR and is Brand New

Chrystal White Pearl White Metallic with Frozen Blue Accent

Pure Impulse Carum Spice Grey Full Perforated Leather

20" Light Alloy Turbine Wheels

Anthracite Headliner

LED Headlights with Cornering Lights

Then it starts to get weird.....

MSRP $149,250 USD

Can Assume Lease $2,335.39/Mo. for 36 Months + Fee*

Can Purchase at Lease Buyout + Fee*

Local BMW Dealer will handle the financial transaction and title as a courtesy to seller and buyer. BMW dealer may assist in shipping.

Seller will entertain offers in excess of $225,000 for Outright Purchase-You will obtain clear title- $149,250 MSRP + $75,750 (Fee)*

Seller will entertain a lease assumption —Must Qualify and pay application fee to BMW Financial. Bids of $80,000 and above (Fee)* excluding the lease assumption will be considered. Fee paid to Seller. The lease fulfillment becomes the responsibility of the Buyer and all lease payments go directly to BMW Financial who retains title.

Oh HELL no. A $76k markup?!? The car just came out and I doubt there's going to be an $80k markup at dealers. The only reason you'd pay that much is if you wanted one right away, and is it really worth $80k above MSRP to have it 6 months earlier?

Strangely enough, it's only slightly more than the current norm:

It really is a great color. And I think I've seen someone mention that almost every time the i8 is discussed. (For good reasons, obviously)

There won't an $80k markup at dealers because there aren't any at dealers. The waiting list for that car is a year long.

Seller's a douche for basically marking up this car by a factor of one 6 gran coupe...but...guaranteed obtainability right now vs. waiting a year means he's probably going to get what he wants.

Seriously? Do people advertise brand new $70k+ cars on Craigslist?

Just seems like there are better places to shop for new cars.

Craigslist isn't really a 'place'. It's just a global message board people use to post thing other people want to buy. In that, it's not any different from ebay, autotrader, cars.com or any other goods swapping site.

Yeah, there are the craigslist horror stories, the people who treat it like haggle central, the people who say they're interested and don't show up, the people are generally terrible, but it's not like those same people don't do the same bullshit when they contact you to buy something through other sites. Lots of junk on craigslist, but typing 'ferrari, lamborghini, muscle car' or any other premium toy you want and it'll be there the same as any other site that sells cars.

I'm really hoping no one makes me an offer, because it would be hard to turn down someone throwing $50-100k at me...on the other hand, I really wouldn't want to do business with someone that would do that anyway. Most of me hopes I just buy it and never hear about the dumb prices idiots are willing to pay to subvert the wait for production.

Let me say this first: I'm a huge fan of plug-in hybrids and electric cars. They are definitely one of the ways forward. I like the way the i8 and i3 look. I think BMW has finally given plug-in hybrids a good looking face.

Unfortunately, after watching that video of "how to open the doors and pop the hood" on the i8, I don't want one. Not now, not ever. It's almost turned me off of the entire BMW brand. Whoever engineered that thing should be taken out back and dealt with. Seriously. It's such a shame because it is such a cool looking and tech-nifty car.

I suspect you'll be able to get a markup on it no matter when you choose to sell.

Supposedly only ~500 the first year in the US...(and many are being eyed for export). They make way more 458s than that and guys got sticker two years when selling them.

500 only in the US/year = fuggetabout ever getting one at MSRP from anybody who sells theirs.
