Regardless of how much money he spent on it, he is awarded $10 from the card. I can see that the cost of the card has offset itself and he pockets an extra $5. However if you scratched a similar card and won $100k, you wouldn't really be going around saying, "OH MY GOD!!!! I WON $99,995!!!!"
