Bikelopnik: Some minor work on my old road bike

This 1980/81ish Huffy Aerowind was given to me by my grandfather after I asked for it since he didn't use it anymore. That was 5 years ago. This bike is now my mule in college since my mother won't allow me to bring my nice Trek to school were it may get stolen. Over the last 35 years or so the grip tape has gotten pretty ratty, I decided to fix that. Before and after pics.

I used a $17 Bontrager kit that included the tape, plugs, and sticky tape that I got at the local cycling shop. The new tape makes a huge difference on the feel of the bike and also brings some color to the brown on brown on brown color of the bike.

Next on my plans are to repaint the frame. The bike is worth next to nothing so I'm not too worried about hurting any value. What color should I paint it? I may also replace the chain because the one on it is really fricken old - I'll probably get a lime green one to match the bars. The wheels aren't all that true anymore so either I will need to buy some cheap rims or figure out an easy way to straighten the. The rear derailer is pretty shitty from years of abuse. Not sure what I'm going to do there. Oh and the brakes are shit - still no idea how to fix that.

You didnt do the most symmetrical job there. I actually need to do this with my bike. A while ago I hit a bridge at a walking pace, but it threw my headset out of alignment (I already fixed that (safety issue)) and it also tore the bar tape on the bar ends.

I know. One of my floor mates came along while I was finish taping the end and wiggled the wheel. I yelled at him. I'll fix it later.
