Only $4.95 (Android), but you need the $25 dongle to go with it. Still, considering the cost of a standalone OBD reader, it's still a bargain. You only need to use it like once to recoup the cost. Plus, in addition to being able to read the Check Engine codes, if you were really up for it, you can do a lot of data logging with it that is not possible with a regular OBD reader.

I have torque for my android. It's great. I just cleared some codes from my GFs car the other day. Also, there is no good apple equivalent because they don't allow the same bluetooth capabilities that android does. (At least that's what I have read) I could try connecting my work phone (iphone) to my OBD2 scanner after work I guess.

I have used it, it is okay. Until they come out with one to do ABS and SRS codes too I aint paying for one. A few free ones out there that do all of this too

I got the dongle for like $10 on Amazon.

I will say though that the more expensive ones, like around the $100 range I think, will report data at a faster rate, I think they may connect via USB to achieve that. Put for just playing around a cheap one from Amazon does the trick.

As for an app for Apple, I'm afraid I can't help there.

if you bought a dongle with Wife you can use OBDCarDoctor. if you got a cheaper Bluetooth one you'll have to jailbreak your phone and then you can get ROQYBT4(useful version not free) and its obd plugin. ROQ pulls the data off Bluetooth and sends in on your local network where cardoctor can use it.

FYI those cheapy elm327 are unreliable, I have one and went through the saga of trying to get it to work only to find that the cheap bugger doesn't work with my car

I have Torque for Android and that cheap blue dongle from Amazon - no complaints. If you just need CEL diagnosis, there's a free version of the app and I think it does that. I used it for a while, and eventually decided it was worthwhile to spring for the paid app (the only app to merit my money so far).

I dislike torque since most of the fancy gauges are a gigantic PITA to setup on a phone. It's fine for checking CELs and the like though, I guess.
