They're not really any better than other cars of their time for anything. They're as good as some of them in some categories......but people don't take care of them, blow them up, so if you want to stance and chop and hack up a car, nothing of value is lost. Hell, rust the trunk, slap beer labels on the front fenders, and call it Bierwagen.
.....I still can't believe I drove that thing for a year of my life.....

My first car was a German model 93 Golf 1.8 automatic. I beat the shit out of it daily for 2 years and did no maintenance on it. Ran like a champ until the end when the tranny was stuck in 3rd gear.

Eh, the Mk3 Vr6 was not that good by any stretch of the imagination and is a bitch to work on. THe Mk3 GTI with a VR6 is actually pretty bad IMO. Might as well save up and get a MkV for limitless tuning thanks to the use of the 2.0 TSFI motor

You should;ve stanced it. You would;ve gotten another year or two out of it.

To be honest, I don't mind them. The first one has Porsche wheels, and that makes me forget about the stance a bit.

Have you driven one? I've driven a corrado VR6, and I loved it. it's pretty much the same car anyway. The exhaust note is amazing! :D

I have driven both the Mk3 and the corrado and no, the corrado is both infinitely better to drive and impossible to keep running. The Mk3 VR6es plow hard where the corrado dances. But the early VR6es are god awful for reliability.

One day there will only be a handful of nice Mk3:s left, because 99% of them will have been run to the ground. And so the Mk3 shall rise from the rusty ashes and claim its spot as a classic Volkswagen.
