This specifically annoys me. I moved here to the United States when I was 4. I didn't read any more about what China has been doing to the Hong Kong government until the elections a while ago when CY Leung won and it started to grind my gears.

When I went back Hong Kong in August of last year, my Cantonese family did not like how China was moving in at all, the fact that one of my uncle's married a Mainland woman, the fact that walking everywhere, you can point out every single Mainland Chinese person. My grandparents specifically did not take this well.

I wish that I could be in Hong Kong right now to be part of this movement, but with how China normally smothers its presence into everything, I'm not the most confident that Hong Kong will come out victorious in these protests.

Oh and it's that much worse how I'm in Oklahoma for school and for some reason more than 15% of the school are Chinese International students and between almost getting hit by one of their Porsches and choking on second hand smoke walking right out of the Engineering hall, I don't have the best relationship with them here either.

It's really difficult to resent the actions of a country like China because even their people usually don't support what the government in doing.

Also, the Chinese/Asian people who come to the US to study don't represent all of China/Asia. Most of them are the richest of the rich. Rich people have a slight tendency of being douchey regardless of their nationality.

I'm against China bullying countries around. Unfortunately, they have quite a leverage on the west for us to do anything...

Proud of them for standing up, but I'm fearful as well... Hope it ends peacefully.

My brother lived in Hong Kong for several years, and is now in Shanghai (with his pregnant wife).
