It was the summer of 2007. Michael Bay's Transformers had just been released and I was 11. I had never been much of a car guy in the past, but the second I saw the Pontiac Solstice in that dumb explosion-fest, everything changed.
Some cars had seemed cool to me before, but the Solstice was more than that — it was beautiful. '90s Miatas looked dated to me back then, but the Solstice (and Sky) felt modern and cutting-edge. I wanted to know more about the Solstice, and I wanted to learn more about cars in general. I began to pore over auto books and stalk manufacturer websites, and thus an obsession was born.
What specific vehicles got y'all into cars?

Even though I mainly like European and JDM cars now,
This was the car that got me into cars!

1956 Ford Thunderbird
My grandpa had one (under a tarp, in pieces) so that was the first car I really knew and could identify. Plus it's a damn good looking car.

I grew up liking Corvettes. I was 5 years old when my family toured the Bowling Green plant and saw the 40th anniversary Vette being produced.
However I wasn't really a "car guy" until I was quite a bit older. At that point, my first REAL favorite car was the C5 Z06. I thought the rear brake ducts were so cool and I liked the hardtop look over the regular coupe. I'm still not a big fan of the basic C5 coupe, and IMO it took Chevy until the C7 to make the coupe look sexy again (C2 and C3 had the best coupes before... I think I'd rank the coupe styles C2, C7, C3 now)

One of the earliest cars I fell in love with was the 300sl. I discovered it when I was in the fifth grade flipping through one of my Dad's Hemmings catalog.

I dunno, these were the coolest back in '03 or something. I just remember them being super cool, and a sight to see if were to see one.
Like rally hot hatches as a 3-4 year old; I think I had a scale model of this from a while back. I want a Focus SVT.

Most of these cars didn't even exist when I first got into cars at around age 3.
My first favourite car was the then-current C3 'Vette.

In the mid-'90s, when I were a lad, it was this that was on my wall. Low, red, pointy, HUGE rear wing and it's a Ferrari, and that's what Michael Schumacher drives. It ticked all the boxes. It was on Need For Speed II and I used it all the time (well, the Ford GT90 too).

Always has been and always will be a 71 Mach 1.
My earliest memory is going for it's last ride before Dad sold it and bought a 76 LTD.
The only way I'd buy one is if I could drop the cash on one that's fully restored.

I didn't know what a turbo was then. I don't know what it was. The looks, the sound, the fact we were unstoppable together in the Canadian course.

Mazda Rx7. I don't remember where I saw it first but I was obsessed with how it looked. I didn't know if I liked it or not but after staring at it long enough I realized I love it.

Late '90s, I was still wetting the bed, and for some reason I just thought that Honda Civics were the epitome of awesome. Probably because I only knew like three cars by name, and as far as I was aware they were exactly the same mechanically and just looked different.

As I am of a certain age, this is the car I first remember wanting to own.
I wanted it all the way down to the moon hubcaps. Kind of still do.

Jaguar E-Type, specifically a gorgeous silver 1961 S1 FHC that belonged to my grandfather. That car was the most incredible thing I had ever seen in my life when I was a kid. I've got a black and white picture of it hanging around here somewhere.
True story: When I was four, my uncle bought a '71 E-Type 2+2 to restore. I had never seen an E-Type in anything other than the showroom condition of my grandfather's, and I'm told that I cried when I saw the '71.
Also unfortunately true story: My grandfather sold the '61 at the absolute bottom of it's market but at a time when neither myself (because I was about 16) or my father (who regrets it to this day) could afford it. $15k he sold that car for, probably right around the year 2000.

I honestly cant put my finger on it. When I was very very young I loved the Hummer H2. Then I loved the Lamborghini Gallardo. Then the Bugatti Veyron, and it has been too much cars that I love to pinpoint 1.

Mitsubishi 3000GT. I had just gotten my license when GT1 came out, and I was going the "buy low, tune high" route to climb the racing series ladder. When I got to the point of affording the GTO (what was the name of the 3000GT in the game), I decided that AWD would serve me better all around than RWD. It turned out to be true, and I've been in love with it ever since.
Well, now I'm just friends with it actually. Once I heard that maintenance was a cost issue, I kind of fell out of love.

Well, I do have two things from it. I have its original shift knob, which I keep in my truck for good luck. And that E-Type was registered with the plate TJ-13, which are now on my XJ12. Still, I'd love to own that car...I'd just have to sell my house now to do it.

89 Taurus SHO. I have a reason.
I was 10ish, the year was 1992 or so and I was in the truck with my dad. We pulled up behind two cars at a light revving their engines: A white SHO and a red Camaro of some kind. I remember my dad saying something ot the effect of "That Taurus stands no chance, why is even bothering?" Needless to say, the SHO destroyed the front tires on its way to absoultely dusting the Camaro to the next light. We were both taken aback, and I decided I had to have one.
Fast forward nine years later and the first car I purchase Is a "Champagne" 1989 SHO Taurus. I still miss that car, but not the transmission issues.

A 1958 Chevrolet Corvette pull-back car that I had.
I named it 4b after watching the opening sequence of Herbie because that was one of the cars in the demolition derby.
I played with it for years until it was broken beyond all recognition. My mom secretly bought me another one just like it after getting rid of the broken one and I took the best care of it.

Hey now, I actually own one and love it! Mine's an '07 EX, though, so I dont have the cladding. Insanely functional though! I drive everywhere with the back seats pulled out just because....doesn't mean I don't have room for the car that got me into cars: a black Porsche 928 GTS blew right past my family's car in downtown Seattle in '94. (I knew it was a GTS after I looked it up because of the red light bar connecting both sides of the tail lights together...that wrap-around tail light style is also why I fell in love with the 993-generation 911 and eventually bought a Subaru SVX)
The driver was an asshole and ran a red light, but damn that v8 roar as he flew by made me want one something fierce.
