Probably not the most accurate tool in the world, but it seems like a neat way to get a ballpark estimate of costs at specific service intervals.
You can see a breakdown of the estimated parts and labor.

They probably have the hours listed for the jobs and the service rates at different shops and just figure it out. + parts of course. Curious what Subaru timing belts are rated at.

Okay, this is a load of crap.
I called all the local dealers when I was shopping for a Forester XT that was near the mileage for the timing belt to be changed and was quoted a minimum of $800 with some as high as $1200.

yeah I don't have high hopes for this app. I pretty much view cars.com in general as a time-waster.

Actually I really like cars.com and if you are shopping new or cars under 100k miles it's actually really good. I can go in and choose to search for rwd hatchbacks with manual transmissions that are brown all over the country under $30k and less than 60k miles. They even let you search for specific trims like when searching for Subaru Foresters you can not waste your time and tell them to only show you XTs. For non craigslist cars it's pretty good. Autotrader is much worse.

Yeah I like the interface on cars.com, but autotrader seems to have more cars listed and with more information/pictures.
