The label on the 22" steelies reads:
This wheel for transport only. Not intended for extended use. Discard after installing TPMS on dealer-installed wheels.
But I think it'd be pretty hot powdercoated black or red with some dog dish hubcaps and trim rings.

I remember when the 2002 Ram came out with 20's, and had a full size 20" steelie spare. Blew my mind.

It does look nice, especially on a black truck. No holes for venting brake gasses though, so maybe you'd run into brake heat issues.

22x9 i think — it's got 285s mounted on it.

I don't understand? Why would they not just ship the truck with the proper wheels on? It seems like a waste to put wheels on for transport, only to throw them out once it reaches it's destination.

Damn, that's not a bad size. I'd have to do a 6 lug conversion, but I think that would look badass if it got some nicer tires

I'd never heard of it, either. It sounds ridiculously wasteful.

"Not intended for extended use." This is a LIE broke/poor/stubborn people have been driving on these tires forever.

I imagine the temporary usage warning is just because they don't have the TPMS system.

This wheel for transport only.
Isn't that kind of the point of wheels?

I still don't understand why they do not just put the right wheels at the assembly plant? What a bunch of imbeciles!
Looks like GM has money to waste for some reason.
but thanks for the link.

The reason why some trucks come with these is because this truck is getting specialty optioned wheels that are LPO (dealer - installed). These wheels are typically shipped from a separate factory and show up at a different time than the truck (Some have come days in advance and others days later). The wheels that go on are EXPENSIVE and I'm sure you've seen Ford's way to fix this, they cover the wheels with plastic. Well GM doesn't want to risk the transporter rubbing the chrome/black/etc wheels against curbs or the transport truck itself. Also, when it comes to "throwing the steelies out" they actually get returned to GM otherwise we get billed big time. I believe they re-use/recycle them.
Any other q's?
