It was, unless I'm greatly mistaken, the most expensive car in the world when it was new. Combine that with the fact that it was, to many people, very ugly, and you have what is generally considered a flop. I personally like the cartoonish styling, in the same way I like cartoonish styling on a Viper, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , or 1977 Continental. I like the Camargue, because it's a unicorn Rolls-Royce 2-door GT car with extremely limited production numbers and controversial (read: hated) styling. What about y'all?

I am not sure what is wrong with the styling, except that it looks like a 4 door, but they forgot to put the rear doors. Still I will buy an old Rolls or Bentley just so I can satsify my inner poshness to look over the plebs in their new Rollses and Bentleys.

Personally, I think it's gorgeous. It's a flagship Rolls coupe with Italian flair. What's not to love?
There's a guy on Wikipedia who militantly guards the Camargue article , editing out anything that paints the car in a positive light. He (or she) constantly reapplies this bullshit "Critical Reception" section anytime anyone tries to delete it or scale it back. It's basically a list of everything negative anyone's ever said about the Camargue, and it's just so freaking biased. Whoever he is, he hates the Camargue with a passion, and wants the world to hate it too.

IMO the only problem with the styling is that Pininfarina tried too hard to make it look like a Fiat 130 Coupé. Not that there was anything wrong with a 130 Coupé, but an oversized Rolls-Royce grill simply doesn't work on a Fiat. Shame, cuz I rather like dat ass.

I wouldn't call it a GT car. It had zero sporting pretensions or credentials.
And the styling would have been so much better if the body didn't look like it came straight out of a baking pan.
While the period Pininfarina styling looked great on the Fiat 130 Coupe and Ferrari 400, translating those same lines to such a tall car made it look clumsy and slab-sided. The wheel-to-body relationship on the Camargue wasn't as good as the Fiat or Ferrari, either, which only added to the imbalanced, body-heavy look.

I mean, it was a big V8 in a 2-door luxury coupe. That's kind of a GT car, right? In the same way that the Phantom Coupe is a GT car.

No. That thing looks like a bad soviet copy of a Rolls/Bentley.

Only if you consider this a GT car:
I wouldn't. GT means sporty. GT means an enjoyable drive across the winding motorways of Europe. Not all-out supercar or exotic or anything. I'd call the Aston DB9 a GT car. Or the Ferrari 400.
The Camargue is a plush sensory deprivation tank of a cruiser. So is the Rolls Royce Phantom coupe. I wouldn't consider it a GT, either.
The Wraith, yes, since it has sporting pretensions. But neither the Camargue nor the Phantom Coupe are sporty in any real way.

Touché.
And how did I know the Continental/Coupe DeVill would be the counter-arguement?

I dunno...
We're in an era these days where just about the only 2-door cars available fall into a special niche of some sort, whether it's GT, supercar, exotic, hypercar, muscle car, pony car, etc.
Back in the Camargue's day, there were a lot of 2-door cars that were simply sedans or slightly more special versions of sedans. The Camargue is really just a Rolls sedan in an Italian suit.
Comparing it to other GT's would actually be unfair to the Camargue, I think.
