So, today, as I stopped at gas station/convenience store to get my regular $0.75 soda & some gas, a state trooper pulls up next to me.

Kinja'd!!!

He sees me giving his ride the once over and asks me if I like the car. I say as long as it isn't behind me with the lights & siren on, it looks good to me. The officer says it's been a good car, and with the Hemi, is much faster than the old Crown Vics they used to drive. His only complaint was the lack of space, as he was a good 6'5", and he fit into the Ford a bit better. He'd actually prefer if they could drive the Taurus or Chevy PPV, as they are larger in the front seat. Then I notice that he's running snow tires. I ask him about that, and he says he runs them year round, as the trade off in dry conditions is more than made up for on wet or gravel roads. It seems to me, I'd rather have a good set of performance summer tires on my car now, then trade off for a set of winters around November. But, I'm not going to argue the point with a guy with a gun, a stick and a badge.

Our local guys seem to run performance summers and switch. Probably officer/department preference.

That would explain the car, yes.

I was once at a gas station in my Grand Marquis when a trooper who was in a Taurus Interceptor/Police thingy walked by and said, "I'll trade ya". We chatted for a bit about the virtues of the ol' Vic...never knew they missed them so much.

Got to experience one first hand in the passenger seat. Chief briefly said he hated it, no room, poor vision, falling apart. Sure was badass doing U turns in the middle of the road though.

what part? I did OHP out of Springfield, loved it. Wife made me move to South Dakota - not loving it. Chargers are great, it puts a damper on your day when you see you have a CV.

I used to service a very small fleet of police cars (vic's) back in a very small townin Minnesota. They did the same thing. Would usually get 2-3 years out of them, lots of snow, ice, and gravel use.

We all are. I've ridden in the back of one of those and if they think the front seat is cramped the back is even worse.

Being in Ohio, you'll probably be able to talk to a trooper every 20 ft. or so. I swear 1/2 of Ohio's budget goes to finding ways to give speeding tickets :D

I don't think that trooper has driven the Taurus based Interceptor, because that thing has even less space than the Charger. As far as HP duties go though, I think the Charger is the best vehicle to go with. That or the Tahoe PPV.

I have been told the Charger has more room in the front but the Taurus has always had more headroom... old school, so you can wear a hat, a real hat not a cap. A Pal was around 6.3 or so but all torso and the Taurus was about the only modern car his head did not touch to roof.
