Pros: E46 M3, super cheap, BBS LMs, and suspension.

Cons: The owner put it into a curb, broke a wheel, and the inside fender is so badly tweaked that the wheel touches the fender and the hood won't close. Plus, somebody poured paint thiner over the hood, roof, and trunk (on a separate occasion) . Insurance is totaling the car.

Basically, I would buy this to turn it into a track car. The engine needs to come out to replace the busted inside fender. I would strip everything out, seem weld, cage, coil overs, and new wheels along with the chassis repair. I'd get a little back from the good wheels and the interior.

The biggest question is whether the chassis repair will be "relatively" cheap to do. I can do all the prep, but I'd need a professional to put the new piece in. Is this going to be a worthwhile purchase at $5K or more trouble than it's worth? That's my dilemma right now.

at $5k, How many miles are on the Engine? I think the Engine alone if in good condition can be worth more than $5k.

Plenty of trouble....but not more than it's worth to have an E46 M3 track car. =)

Yes, do this. But be really wary and careful about condition, these aren't exactly cheap cars to repair it seems.

$5? Nice price! The work, hopefully, shouldn't be too expensive. Then again, BMW.

if the driveline is in decent condition, it's worth 5k. it'll be a bunch of work but totally worth it.

If you're pulling out the engine check the main bearing, track rat S54s tend to wear bearings. http://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac-performanc…

I'm getting a price on the replacement metal and labor to weld it in tomorrow. Hopefully not too bad.

I was so excited about the prospect, and so focused on the chassis damage that I forgot to check!

Yup, if the motor comes out I'll be checking all the bearings.

For a track car as long as the engine and drivetrain are in good shape its definitely worth it

Plan B and C is to swap the motor. 2Jz or LS. Plan B is to swap if the motor blows up. Plan C is to just sell it all now so I have some instant money to put into chassis prep and roll cage, then put in a new motor later.
