So I took it's face off, showing its gums. The day after the concert, I found myself doing things around the house. Manual labor? What the hell was I doing. While I was at it, I decided to clean the four year old K&N filter and tighten the poorly DIY-installed fog light on the right side. It was pointing all over the road signs instead of the road.

There was also a bolt in there holding the intake tube to the uni-body that was making a terrible squeak while releasing the clutch at low rpm. Anyway, I got to it and took the filter off. K&N says to use their cleaner and oiler kit every 50,000 miles. I drive about 7,000+ a year so a low mileage high time filter looks like this:

the pink is gone all around it except for the lowest point on the bottom. It was getting pretty dry. to the sink I went.

Instructions say to spray the solvent inside and out liberally, wait 10 minutes then rinse with cool low pressure water from the inside only....so the dirt washes away, not further in to the cotton. Let dry naturally. Dont get your compressed air out and blow holes in it. Oil, wait 20 minutes, install and drive.

Ready to go. Tightened up the fog light on the bumper cover, installed and went to get gas + injector/fuel system cleaner. It did, i swear, sound better after this cleaning. (The filter sock got a thorough dish wash soap cleaning as well...it was more filthy than I thought.)

Oh yeah, the tire pressure was quite a bit lower than i thought. up to 35 all around and I'm good to go. the next thing to do is finally submit to the insurance company and put it in the shop for the $5500 hail damage repair since hail season is over, as well as tree sap season. So I'll get it back looking like a brand new car. That will be a nice post when it happens.

A clean, waxed car with the right air pressure and tuner bits all...tuned makes you want to drive it again.

I dig that filter sock. Are they supplying that with the filter now, or do you have to buy it separately? I haven't bought a K&N in years.

the colour of the water when I wash my filter is always amazing. my butt dyno says I get at least 52 horse powers back from a good cleaning too
