"Brian, The Life of" (familycar)

No SR20 but I'll describe. Many of you may have heard of this trick but it was new to me so I thought I'd share. We hired a tutor to help two of my daughters prepare for the SAT and he rolled up in a very nice '66 notch Mustang. I was chatting with him after the lesson and he showed me the creative kill switch he and his dad came up with for his car.
Rather than hide a switch under the dash somewhere they modified the cigarette lighter to do the jerb. They ran the ignition wire through the lighter and modified it so it no longer gets hot. When the lighter is plunged the circuit is connected and the car will start when you turn the key as expected. When it's "popped out," as it normally would be, the circuit is disconnected. I thought this was a great mod for a classic car like his and thought y'all would appreciate it.

I would never think of the cigarette lighter as being a kill switch

my favorite design for a kill switch was a floor activated hibeam switch and an old caddilac running light timer, the car would start and run for about a minute then cut out, leaving the would be thief stranded three houses down and your car not very far away.

We had a two position fuel cutoff switch installed in between the 50-50 split bench in the old '66 Rambler American. It was a pain to jam your hand down there, fish around for the little nub and flip it, but I'm sure it would've been funny to see any potential ne'er do wells try to take it - only to be left stranded 500 feet out :)

My dad did this with his Corvette! :)
Although it pissed off his smoking friends on long drives...

That's a good idea. Stops fuckers from stealing and from smoking in your car.
