Have I ever used the word “literally” incorrectly before?

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was from Megan, who simply wrote, "ZOMG," followed by at least 30 emojis, half of which appeared to be shrimp tempura. I still don't understand how that is a valid response to a video of an Orangutan on a ceiling fan.

There's too much concern over the incorrect usage of this word. EVERYONE knows they're using it place of figuratively. That's WHY people use it the way they do. If someone is calling you out for this, then THEY are the ones with the problem.

Haha, I was annoyed by the pedants a few years ago so I went and looked it up. Word came into use in the early 1500s and the second (figurative) meaning was in common use by the mid 1600s. I found a couple dictionaries (oldest ones the library had) from the 1930s and 40s that had both definitions. They're straight up incorrect.

If they really have a problem with it, they have a problem with people who lived ~350 years ago...good luck solving that.

This is great info. I'll have to find a quote to dangle in front of pedantic noses.
