Saw one of these 80-82 Thunderbirds on the road this morning (same guy I've seen a few times). Antique plate and in good condition. Seen from behind it's a slab-sided box with these wimpy little 75-series tires tucked way into the fenders looking like donut spares.

accuse me of having rose colored glasses etc, but I prefer the square body stuff much more than modern design language.

A kid down the street from me picked up a rather clean example about 5 years ago. Paint was a 9/10. Took him less than a year before the paint started coming off. He got less than 2 years from the car. I left notes on it expressing my interest to buy it (save it is a bteer term) from him with a contact number. Instead he killed it. Just like his father killed a 1970 Cougar Eliminator a few years before.....

Clearly, dad deserves a beating esp if it was a 428 Eliminator.

What struck me was the glaring difference in design shape between then & now. I like the 6th-gen car personally (72-76) because they're the classic American land yacht.

The days of long overhangs are certainly gone.

It was. The car had been modified by its previous owner. Car was an animal. This guy left it parked in the street during snowstorms. Big snowstorms. 15 inch deluges of snow. Yes they have a garage.
