I've gone totally mad and am working on an E85 conversion. Don't try to stop me; it's already too late. I'm running about 18% total ethanol content right now and I must HAVE MORE. MORE CAR BOOZE!
That being said, in order to take advantage of my new power source I need to do some ignition upgrades. I'm going to jump a service connector and advance the timing on my CR-V via the distributor cap, but after that I'm totally at a loss.
Freaking ignition modifications, how do they work?
Next up: Getting a junkyard turbo and figuring out how to give it pitiful boost.

Don't try to stop me
No one here would ever dream of trying to stop you and I think you know that.

Ignition is the action of setting something on fire or starting to burn, timing is the art of making/saying something at the right moment.

Wow, that legendary huh? I guess I'll snap pictures of the gutter-tubing air ram I'm hopefully going to be able to install today.
No, it's not the manual. Sadly. It's the damn automatic, but I found out that the transmission can be made to not totally suck if you just use Honda fluid, which of course the previous owner never did.

what year cr-V are we talking? If you have a distributor cap you should be able to adjust manually to some extent. Likely computer controlled though, so your knock sensor should adjust for it automatically. Maybe you have a dead knock sensor? Tap the block with a hammer while it is running and see if the engine note changes

1999. If I don't jump the service connector before messing with the timing, the computer will compensate. Jumping the connector will allow me to adjust it manually.
My problem after that is that I'm lost in the world of aftermarket ignition upgrades. My understanding is that most of them really only apply to pre-OBD-II or even carb engines, and not the one that I have.
This was inspired by my plans to modify the coming Ion Redline for ethanol, which in its case is going to be almost TOO easy.

It's a distributor. Teach me about aftermarket EFI!

That this is a Honda leaves me boned for Chiptuning, apparently.
I figured as much; otherwise the ethanol conversion would be as easy as messing with the fuel maps.

Not for vehicles made in 1999 when looking to chiptune, apparently.
